I deadset swear people in Australia just protest for the sake of protesting these days.

What a bunch of ex-private school muppets.

Who can't realise the fact it's 2024.

Lol, a huge 20 people protesting.
Reading that story, I saw no actual argument from these protesters about why they think becoming a co-ed school is a bad thing. Seems the only argument they have is "because it's always been this way" which is a dumb argument.

Those parents who have kids at the school and are against this can move their boys to another school.
Those dipshit old boy ex-students who don't even have kids at the school can go and get f**ked. What they have to say about the matter means nothing.

2024 and merkins are happy with the existence of girls only schools but think boys schools need to ‘get with the times’. I went to a coed high school until year 9 and then a boys school for the final three years. It was heaps better without every merkin trying to root their classmates. Sexual tension is an absolute vibe killer when you’re trying to be productive. This is why single gender spaces are important.

I'm ok with girls and boys only schools.
I also think that if one of those schools wishes to change to co-ed then protesting about it is stupid. Parents can then choose which of those they want to send their kids to.

I've actually got my girls' names down at an all-girls private school for when they go to high school. If it chooses to change in that time to co-ed then I'll be perfectly fine with it and still be happy to send them there.

If it changes to an all-boys school I might have a hard time with it though.

I actually heard a father at the school in an interview last year. He was speaking to solicitors about the matter. His point was he chose that school for his boys as there wouldn’t be a distractions for them.

I’m sure his lawyer will gladly take $10k up front and provide written advice. I tell you what his advice will be, move your kid to Trinity up the road. Cha-ching.

These schools can do what they f**king like. My son’s old school is even MORE traditional and snobby than the Stanmore one, full of Packers, Fairfax, judges etc and they went co-ed too.

You know why , (economics, and) because it was developing a reputation that some of the boys were entitled little grab their tits at the Golden Sheaf rapists and had no idea about consent. It blew up after a girl from my daughter’s school was raped by a kid from Cranbrook. Then other girls felt safe to come out with their stories.

When I was in high school I would have loved it too be co-ed (I went to an all boys catholic school in the eastern suburbs of Sydney) at the time.

However looking back now, I would not change it. They were some of the best days of my life. Going to school and it just being the lads. No girls distracting you. There was an energy about it, similar to going to the pub with your best bloke mates.

When I eventually have sons of my own they will be going to all boy schools. Hopefully in the future they will still be a thing.

Are the fancy girls schools going co-ed too?
There has to be a fit. Cranbrook bought the old Rose Bay bowlo a built a huge junior school there. So they have the capacity to expand now that K-6 is no longer at Bellevue Hill.

I know from driving by Newington that they have recently expanded across the road by buying the Concordia Club on Stanmore Road.

Schools won’t just go co-ed and halve their male numbers. They will aim to increase overall student numbers in an expansion drive, usually coinciding with new buildings.

Cranbrook just ripped up their oval, built a huge carpark and learning centres, etc etc etc underneath, then popped the grass back.

Boys and girls are very easily disracted by the opposite sex at that age, I know I was.

I went to Parra Marist and we had the girls high school right next door and there was much distractions before and after school as thats where all our girl friends were.

It would have been very distracting having them in the same class rooms.

Same.. I remember the public school kids on the bus called it twinkies paradise.
Most of my friends who attended become quite successful. Can't say as much for the other kids on bus.

I don't think you should view this as a trend. These two schools are unique and were set up by rich merkins 100 years ago with a flexible charter. There are other schools like Waverley College and Kincoppal Rose Bay that we set up by the Friars or the Nuns. Different.

Money most likely. More competition / increase supply and demand and then up the fees. Business strategy
You are close. Cranbrook school fees are nearly $50,000 per year for Y12 in 2024. Double it for boarding. That's a lot of after tax money. They need to do something to slow the growth in fees and economies of scale is one answer. If they don't then supply v demand will reach its natural limit and they will be looking to fill empty seats.

I will tell you this for nothin. I learnt sitting under trees at cricket matches that there are just as many mums n dads who go without to send their kids to these schools, as those who ski in aspen at Xmas. I'm not here to argue right or wrong about public vs private, just telling how it is.

But Cranbrook had other reasons ^^^^ reputation as well as $$$, so they had to bite the bullet.

I went to a co-ed school and was not distracted by girls in the slightest.
It was just normal having them there. If there was a hot girl in my class, you'd have a look over, say hello, and then get on with your work. Maybe talk to her after class.

We are not animals. We can control ourselves. We weren't sitting there staring at the girls all through class. If anything it was my guy mates who were more distracting, chatting about sports or whatever.
