The last thing the Eels should be doing is trying to recruit a big money import off the back of potential ie Lachlan Galvin. Patience is a virtue and you need to be patient either waiting for something come thing thru your junior pathways or a low cost kid with talent from another club. If you throw huge money at the likes of young Galvin, as yet unproven, you will be no better off than you are now. There is plenty of hugely talented kids coming thru the junior pathways of all NRL clubs, you just have to find the right one at a fraction of the initial outlay.
Didn’t Smugs attempt to sign Galvin?

I agree with you there is no rush to be honest.
On Galvin we have a whole season to watch how he goes next to Luia if he doesn't improve I doubt we will throw crazy money at him.

We have Volkman and Hawkins as possible replacements for next year.

On juniors we have a few have some ok ones in Flegg as well as CUP not long term I don't think but they will be ok while one of the 3 in Ball and Matt's come through.
We've got Michael Witt coming through the ranks.

It’s about being patient, you guys may not have the next Nathan Cleary in your junior pathways, but other clubs may have. The Dolphins got Isaiah Katoa out of the Panthers SG Ball and he is an emerging talent at a young age. Your recruitment team needs to do the same, unearth a quality half either from within or elsewhere. Paying over the odds for young Galvin or Wishart just won’t work out the way you would like.

We have some decent kids in Ball and Matt's.

They will be NRL players.

We do need to be patient and a 5/8 isn't on the top of the recruitment list.

The halves that debut as teenagers and look decent always get projected to be great but they rarely end up better than okay. Sam Walker, Braith Anasta, Tim Smith, that ugly rang with Newcastle now, Crofts, McFadyn, McLinden, Mick Witt, Lamb, Brown, Hodkinson, Kris Keating, Garen Casey (2 tries on debut in about 1995 then fell off a cliff) the list goes on.
I think the ones who do go on to be great usually have the advantage of being in a very good team.

Disagree. When it’s obvious they’re going to be something special you have to go for it.
