But Qld is passing up massive amounts of ticket sales which are pocketed by the host city, by not sharing the love with bigger stadiums around the country.
As for Hindmarsh, I wasn't suggesting that as a venue. Just sayin'. It hosted two 18000 crowds and one 16000 crowd in 2000 of which all three crowds are bigger than what Sunshine Coast will be when redeveloped.

No need to get defensive. I'm just suggesting that with the international popularity of football in this country nowadays (both men's and woman'), Qld are mad not to take advantage of that to try and recoup some of the costs of running these Olympics.

I'm not disagreeing with you. Hence my question as to whether they can be played at the larger, oval venues, as is not permitted for FIFA events.

Feels the real missed opportunity was turning dolphin stadium into a genuine 25-27k home ground for Dolphins and using that as a football venue rather than one of the regional stadium spends. 7 games in Redcliffe and the 4/5 big ones at Suncorp would have been a good outcome from the Olympics.

Olympic Soccer (Football) isn't a big draw even to fans.

It's limited to U23s and most of the world's stars don't compete in it.

Won’t work. Literally what I’ve stated previously re: corners and provisions is the only capacity expansion course as per original design and specifications.

There’s fire engineering, access/egress and certification issues with what you’re proposing.

The Sydney Olympics were happy to share the games around the country, with matches in Brisbane, Sydney x 2 (of course), Melbourne, Adelaide, and Canberra.
In fact, the first event at the 2000 Olympics was at a sold out Hindmarsh stadium in Adelaide and the 2nd was at the MCG with 93 252 in attendance and both matches occurred before the opening ceremony was held.
The final at Stadium Australia had an attendance of 104 098.

Playing the world's biggest sport at the Olympics in these tin pot towns in Qld in front of the world is shameful.

I’m not too fussed on Cairns & Sunny Coast getting games, they will both have 20k capacity with some temp seating if it’s as per the original plan. Hopefully they can keep some of that temp seating to easily set up for NRL games in the future

When you compare the list of venues to some previous Olympics it’s fairly underwhelming though.

I assume Socceroos & Matildas will get auto-qualification? There’s 6 Suncorp sellouts just for the group games to see the Australian teams. Throw in finals and other big games, plus Rugby 7s. Plenty of upside to a moderate upgrade for the Olympics and far more upside for the city post-games.

I apologise. The IOC is not FIFA, therefore their requirements for football venues may very well be different.
I don't honestly know, but I would assume that the IOC is about full venues, regardless of their shape.
My original point being that Sydney was happy to share to football tournament around the country. QLD is not.
Thinking about it further, it probably has something to do with the time of year.
There's no way any AFL state is going to give up any stadium in July or August for 6 - 8 weeks.
The NRL are different and will work with the BOC.

Crowds were all over though for Group games from a low of 5k to a high of 48k, with 11 of 24 Group games attracting 25k+ crowds.

1/4 finals crowds of 19k-43k.
Semis 60k&37k
Bronze medal match 27k
Gold medal match 44.2k

It’s not a surprise but it’s absolutely a shit result for NRL.

The way the fumbles media are creaming their pants over this shows it`s about the only really exciting (and the reality is it is only hype) and how Tassie is really an embarrassment for their expansion plans.

It`s seven years away, and by then we`ll have teams in Perth, PNG and likely out of the brand-new stadium in Christchurch, Brissie 3 will be in the pipeline and there will be building expectation about Adelaide.

Long time away, and we`ll be well into cementing our position as Oz`s number one sport by then.

Stadium size dictates. I think the football tournament will be very popular here, lots of ex pats from around the world and often the easiest tickets to get hands on.

NRL should be saying to NSW and Qlnd, whoever delivers a new stadium, or substantial upgrade, gets MR and GF for X amount of years. Lets see who is interested. Accor or Suncorp being rebuilt would be a bonus for the game.

Considering the majority of fans are in Sydney already, a Sydney Magic Rd offers little in economic benefit to the NSW govt
