Bernadette one of the sisters was in The Bill, she passed away in 2013.
Linda another of the sisters passed away earlier this year.

Lol, yes Figaro was terrible. Speaking of imitation, Tight Fit who had a big hit with The Lion Sleeps Tonight bought out a song called Fantasy Island, if that wasn't trying to rip off the ABBA formula nothing was.

Pleased to say this track had never previously invaded my consciousness.

When Tight Fit were on TOTP with The Lion Sleeps Tonight, it was an open secret that these three telegenic figures hadn't sung on the record.

Just checked on Wiki and apparently they did sing on Fantasy Island. To be fair, it's not a bad recreation of Abba vocal harmonies. Nowadays we'd suspect it was AI-generated.

This is from the 1971 Christmas TOTP. The Beeb habitually wiped the tapes throughout the rest of these years, but they did retain the Christmas specials of 1971-75.

I was weaned on TOTP in the late 60s/early 70s. Usually had my eye on the audience more than the artists. Unless it was Suzi Quatro.

Re the difficult subject you've alluded to -

I hadn't seen the movie in a long while. Assumed it would never be broadcast again on mainstream TV. Last year, one of our terrestrial channels laid on an evening of Abba-themed programmes to mark the 50th anniversary of the Eurovision win in Brighton. Documentaries, testimonials, etc. Rounded off by Abba the Movie. Shown apparently with no qualms.
