Best case scenario in this is NZRL admit their liability for our best winger out for the year from some bush rugby league game
- and give us Metcalf for the year as a token of their fault and we win the comp.

Id be happy with that.

9 - 11 months, take 10 as average then he is back for last 2 round sof regular season, so 2 games next year that's it, might as well have him take whole year off then play just 2 games.
Hope he doesn't lose any speed and can still keep toe with our back 5

Positive could be Stonestreet gets more game time.
Also it demands those very experienced players in back 5 stand up.
I would expect that over off season Kennedy will have worked on his defence, and backing up.
Ramien should come back and showing his skill as a ball player, by now he will have developed the passing game.

But they won't they won't improve.
Kennedy is one of the worst fullbacks in the game and Baldie said sign him up again.
Ramien offered nothing all season so no let's not move him on and give youth a chance.
But it seems people in here are now happy to lose, as long as losing is not 15th to 17th but just a little further up the ladder.
FMD…..you must be a painful can’t to live with. Back for the semis….at least he won’t miss out on his premiership ring.

Shocked. Gutted.

Salary cap excemption of say $400k, get Ramien out the door ~$500k and/or a BHU/Toby ~$500k and we suddenly have marquee money available.

But there doesn’t appear to be marquee availability…

Yes, the
NRL provides salary cap dispensation for players injured in representative games, with a maximum of $350,000 in cap relief available. To qualify, the player must be ruled out for a minimum of three months, or 12 matches, and their club must sign a like-for-like replacement to fill the void on their roster. This relief is not automatic and must be applied for through the salary cap auditor.

How it works
  • Maximum relief: Clubs can receive up to
    1761261690824.gif
    $350,000
in salary cap relief if a player is injured during an NRL-sanctioned representative match (e.g., State of Origin, Pacific Championships).
  • Minimum injury duration: The player must be sidelined for at least three months or 12 matches to qualify.
  • Like-for-like replacement: The club must sign a "like for like" player to replace the injured player, meaning the relief funds are used to sign a player in the same position.
  • Squad size: If a club's 30-man squad is already full, they are permitted to sign a 31st player if the injured player is ruled out for the entire season.

Important considerations
  • Not all tournaments are eligible: Recent rule changes mean injuries sustained in community carnivals like the Koori Knockout no longer qualify for salary cap relief, which could pressure clubs to restrict players from participating, notes this Facebook post.
  • Case-by-case basis: While the rules outline the criteria, the final dispensation is handled on a case-by-case basis by the salary cap auditor, says Zero Tackle.
  • Controversies: The policy has faced some debate, particularly regarding the requirement to sign a "like-for-like" replacement, as reported by Reddit users.

Who would be better at fullback thats available?
Ison - should be ready
Hiroti - has played it for Jets looked the part
Ford - Is young, but other clubs seem to take a chance
Laurie - was available we didn't make play
Chevy - released from Raiders, maybe off field issue but they get swept away
Bevan French - has carved them up in UK for year.
Manu - Would have been worth the look just to see
Instead we have Kennedy and have said before other fullbacks with less experience in FG look better then this guy, he has yet to stand up in a finals game, yep will play a few good games but that is it

The only 1 of those options that isn’t a serious downgrade on Kennedy for 2026 is Manu, and even he’s no guarantee to be better given most players who leave for Union (even just for a year) never come back the same.

Now, id certainly be happy to get Manu, the others, no way. Bevan French is worse than a traffic cone in defence, even in Super League. And whilst yes, he scores plenty of tries, he’s playing against Salford and Wakefield. - hardly the same. Kennedy is an infinitely better player in all aspects of the game than French,
