Never known any business say ' we are doing ok, lets not worry about growing anymore' Perth offers NRL a unique opportunity in Australia. Rich, new single NRL club in 4th biggest city, history of strong participation and a WA govt willing to fund Jnrs and give the new club a leg up. But you know that.
Yep and I'm in favour of having them in the NRL. So build us a stadium and welcome to the league

Problem is all the signs and history of this so far is when put in a corner Cook comes out swinging. he isnt goign to roll over. Hes already mentioned how NRl are a 'weird lot' to deal with.
Much more likely to get a result being professional, getting on a plane and sitting down in perth together than leaking sht to the media and hoping it pressures them, when all the attempts to do that so far have failed.
Comes out swinging to show the WA public he is a tough guy. Whilst original offers were pulled back?
The NRL are "a weird lot " because they don't want to be screwed over ,as has been the case countless times in the past.
PVL(not liked by everyone so what) runs two high powered ,high revenue businesses ,racing & the NRL. If he is not professional then he( sure as Hasler talks like a school teacher) is doing a decent job of running these two organisations.
He doesn't want to start a new club in non heartland area unless the deal smacks of security both financially & long term .PNG meets those terms in a heartland territory.
I've learned one thing about the Oz media & the U.S. media. They and politicians come from the same snake oil salesmen school of BS ,fake news/leaks .You wait til the sh*t happens not before.

You would think the extra 12 games a Perth team would offer would get at least 20 million pa to cover the cost of the grant

So waiting is kind of stupid when tv will pay for them now even if they are crap

Honestly spending on wa juniors isn’t needed it’s a box ticking exercise

Even with the money wa won’t be producing many juniors

And delaying Perth looks like nz gets delayed thought I don’t why nz can’t come in earlier and Perth later

Pvl needs to check the ego

I'd say PNG, out of nowhere got in the way. Without the federal government $600 million, I reckon the NRL and WA govt. would have worked around the clock to get the deal done. But because PNG is already team 18, and the code is now beginning tv negotiations, there wasn't much time for Perth.

Probably what should've happened is:
Perth-18 (2028)
NZ 2- 19 (2032)
Bris 3 -20. (2037)

They were never goign to build a new stadium They were goign to redevelop one stand of a semi decent stadium. So prepared to throw all that opportunity away for one redeveloped stand? If HBF park was totally inappropriate for NRL then fair argument, but it is fine as is, not great but fine.

I reckon f**k em, focus attention on the media deal and then towards Christchurch team 19.

While Perth is a nice to have, that's exactly what it is for the NRL - a nice to have.

It's just 10% of the Australian population and 5% of the combined Australian + NZ + PNG population, we can live without it.

It will be WA that will seem like a backwater after the next multi billion TV rights deal, expansion into PNG and NZ2. Pull out of hosting origins at West Fumbleball Oval, turn attention to Adelaide instead.

Then in a few years when HBF is crumbling even more, and the NRL is absolutely flying and flowing with cash, see if the WA govt wants to revisit their shitty deal treating NRL as a second rate competition.

WA is nearly 12% of population, but dont let maths get in the way of a good rant :)

No, it is a new team in a hostile market against the established sport playing out of Optus Stadium, it's not good enough, not even close to give the Bears a fighting chance.
