That's not the way I read an article from Webby following the re-signing.

I don't think coaches every 'promise' a jersey, or they shouldn't, but it clearly said he was being re-signed as a fullback, not for anywhere else.

Taine is great but he's not a winger. And would other clubs be lining up to sign him? Which NRL side would put him at No.1 right now? I'm not sure there's many.

I don’t follow ESL very closely but I’d imagine there’d be interest in him there.

Dunno if he has any interest moving to England but if he hasn’t thought about it before, he probably is now.

He’ll be 27 by the time CNK’s new deal finishes, be very very surprised if he sticks around.

I wouldn't begrudge him going elsewhere, I don't think anyone would. And I don't think he has a place here anywhere else on the field than No.1, which isn't available unless injury, and I doubt he wants to be a NSW Cup depth option. He's gone OK on the wing but RTS and DWZ get the jump on him, and we should be signing another fringe NRL outside back that isn't Morgan bloody Harper and isn't Ed Kosi. Sorry, or developing what we have coming through

Yea agree there. I certainly wouldn’t begrudge him leaving. In fact I think he should.

For whatever reason the club sees him as just a depth player. They cant possible be so naive as to think he’ll happily spend the prime years of his career waiting for CNK to retire before finally taking over.

If someone comes knocking with a starting gig somewhere, he should go. He’s earned it. He may not be our version of Pap but he’s better than just being perpetual injury cover.

No way. hes one injury away from being the starter. No one knows the future. Theres a reason teams have depth. Why send him to another team where he will star? Need to be selfish about whats best for the team, not the player. We already let Katoa go to the Storm and look how much regret that has given us.

I don't think Taine would leave us unless he is willing to go to the ESL on some good $$$ or he signs on with the new Bears team in 2027. Selfishly I would like to reTAINE him. CNK's legs are on limited mileage so there will be a chance for him to get some full back time.

Bears, that's a good shout. They may also go after Faalogo from the Storm. Realistically we don't want to lose Taine but he's probably too good to be a depth player who only gets a go when CNK is injured, and we need better depth cover on the wing.

gannon is a great talent though.

Jokes aside, I used to follow the ESL with a bias towards Kiwi involvement, which saw me follow Graham West, Lowe, and that Wigan side in the eighties.

Since then have followed clubs like Wakefield, Leeds obviously, and others.

Then ESL coverage was dropped in NZ (idiots) so it is hard to get a look at players.

I noticed Gannon was not a big feature in the pregame build up (obviously was gonna be Watkins 400th dominating talk) so I got the sense Gannon is still seen as an emerging potential Star rather than say SBW at aged 21 with the whole NRL raving about the new Wunderkind.

Obviously I was delighted by the first half of the game, Gannon on first inspection is a very good player and has the potential to be anything if the stars align.

Not getting ahead of myself, quiet second half, barely saw the ball (I notice that Cameron Smith became the focus of the side when he came on and they stopped looking for Gannon). My sense is Gannon is doing the right thing getting away from Leeds with Smith there, who is clearly the Alpha ball playing Lock forward.

He will fit in very well with what we have. We need a ball playing lock or wide backrower that plays ball.

Any idiot watching him can see he has vision and touches of class.

We have Halasima, Laban and Vaimanga all locked down long term and Erin Clark is probably our 2nd best player f the Season behind Metcalf.

Yeah that could work.

McFadden said something along the lines that eventually Gannon will play in the middle. which tends to hint at starting as a secondrower then one day being Clarks bench sub.

The other thing of course is that it is rare that we have the entire pack fit.

If all are fit, someone has to play cup. It sets up a good battle of the young guns, who otherwise would be sitting safe in their spots which is a dangerous thing at our club.

I reckon you’re right… he’s obviously spent time there this season already, and they still haven’t signed Ale or Bunty for next year (as far as I know?) so Marata could be our latest back row convert.
