Let’s be honest here , the player wanted to go where he thought he would develop the best. A struggling club that has mediocrity as it’s Moto or the Dirty Dogs who have recruited very well, sit on top of the ladder and have Gould. Can’t really blame him can you.

Gould has his mates writing stories
Lost me at the player manager is not motivated by money then to top it off the player taking less to go to the dogs.

This does not happen, he will be compensated in other ways.

Until 3rd parties are fixed up (won't happen whilst certain people are involved in the game) or until we know how to manipulate the system this will continue to happen to us.

Not entirely true.

He was not prioritised by us that possibly hurt his feelings. No doubt Gould played that up to him.

On a side note he was not prioritised by Gould either.
Gould turned his attention to him after we resigned JH.
JH was Goulds original target.

If the Dragons hadn't done a good job developing him to date, the Bulldogs would not have been interested in him.

The NRL need to attach a realistic "cap value" to every player that comes into market and that figure will be used regardless of how much less the Bulldogs sign them for.
It will level the playing field if a player takes up the same amount of Cap space regardless of which club he signs for.

100% agree. There has never been so much as a whisper that this kid wasn’t happy with the club until after he signs for the bulldogs, it’s just fabricated to serve a purpose. The article is the biggest piece of arse-kissing I’ve read in a long time. Smacks of an idiot hack who knows how to suck up to people in the industry who can help further his own career.

Another chapter in Flanagan-Gould feud
📰 The Sydney Morning Herald

The screeching coming out of the Dragons about the loss of young gun Finau Latu is motivated by the talent he has. But it is also fuelled by the fact the Bulldogs and general manager Phil Gould had another victory over Dragons coach Shane Flanagan.

The pair do not get along. During the week, Flanagan attacked the player’s agent, Mick Chebl, a former homicide detective who is one of the many decent agents in the game. He took up player management to assist young players and their families, and is not motivated by money.

During negotiations with Latu, the player and his family decided their preferred choice was Canterbury. That choice wasn’t about money, but rather their feeling the Bulldogs would be the best club for his development as a player.

The Bulldogs recommended the family think carefully about their final decision, because the club was well aware there were much bigger financial incentives at other clubs.

In the end, Finau wanted to be a Bulldog, and a three-year deal was agreed for 2026-28.

Chebl faced interference, intimidation and abuse, plus orchestrated media pressure, as people tried to scuttle the deal.

Flanagan publicly shamed Chebl for the way he handled negotiations.

The truth is the Latu family was far from happy with the way the Dragons dealt with their son.

Chebl also received an abusive text from a Knights employee, who was upset at missing out on the player. Media reports then criticised him and overstated the financial terms of the Bulldogs deal. The Bulldogs have remained tight-lipped on the matter, refusing to comment when approached by this column.

Latu is regarded as a highly talented young player and the Bulldogs have made an astute purchase, at good value, to bolster their forward depth for the future.
Interesting that two clubs were disappointed in the managers handling of the situation which you normally don't see publicly.
Just maybe the manager has given mixed messages to us & the Knights ? after being sweet talked by Gould.

I noticed from the day Flanno was signed, and every time something controversial happens in one of Flannos press conferences, that Gould always has the worst take on it.. that plus his absense of words on anything around Shane and his coaching speaks volumes.. the 2 do not like eachother.

We f***ed up Latu though, I mean there are always outside factors with any player signing.. and maybe his manager could have also made it easier for us... and ensured we had a genuine last reply... but once the kids heart is set its over really.. we move on, but definitely still hurting me.. that plus assume Sione is next.. bumming me out that 2 of the better prospects, 3 with tamale have all gone in a 12month period... all in positions we are screaming out for quality in first grade (athletic wingers and props).

FACT
The kid wanted to stay but the interest level was initially only for 1 year
The family looked elsewhere and it was all too late when we ran back to offer more
Then ? blamed the manager
In the absence of any official comment from either the Dragons, the player, his manager, or the Bulldogs on whether he wanted to stay, and for how long the initial contract offer was for, how are you so sure that this is a Fact?

You can be sure that Gould would have bagged Shane & our club in his usual roundabout way without showing his dislike for Shane in his "caring smooth talking way"

The Penrith players at the Dogs are his mates, Laundy TPAs/pub shares, Gus filling his head with shit, job for Latu's dad and more money when TPAs are factored in were the reasons he chose to leave.
The best retention/recruiting team wouldn't have been able to convince him to stay. But the usual suspects want to propagate a bullshit narrative that Flanno fxcked up. Agenda driven fxckers. WEIRDLER is Gus's mouthpiece.

What is the job that the Dogs offered his dad?

I've previously stated that there is more to play than 'Flanno messed up' but I am curious to know what info you have.

I have no info and I have no idea what his new job is. However, there is lots of talk that a job for dad was a part of the deal. Enough talk and from usually informed places to push it past , just a rumour. Could be bullshxt but I don't think so.

Great post. Exactly this in my opinion. Gus has so much pull in the game that lower tier journo's dont have the balls to get him offside.

This forum is spicing up abit now, love the different opinions. Wouldn't be entertaining if we all agreed on everything. Would love for Flanno to get the team back on track but I just can't see it happening, no Flanno hate just higher expectations then some I guess.

He is the coach, name 1 coach who has nothing to do with recruitment I'll wait. Dumb logic
No mate…. That’s why all clubs have recruitment and football mangers… so the coach can coach full time … not like us where the coach has to spend half his time recruiting…. absolutely the coach has an input into recruitment …. but not to the detriment of his coaching role
