Knights fans are absolutely insane.
Massive props to them.
As someone who attends every week I can confirm anyone who does the same likely has some sort of brain damage.

But its worth noting that Newcastle is just a rugby league mad town. There were a ton of Parra supporters last night.

Same time slot same weather last week against the Titans we got 15k.

Always lots of away fans for a one team city.

The success of the Dolphins has been huge and they have injected new energy into the game.

The fact that we are talking about a Dolphins home game crowd that could match or even succeed a Broncos home game crowd on the same weekend and at the same venue leads me to an interesting question though - how much is the success of the Warriors driving large numbers of Wahs fans to go to their away games?
A lot, we are everywhere 😈

I think Parra have a lot of fans from all over that do travel quite well regionally. Canberra and newy usually get good gates

Hopefully the possibility alone spurs Broncos & their fans on for a bigger crowd tomorrow. Sunday afternoon with a decent weather forecast it should be a good crowd as well, hopefully sales pick up and they continue their 40k+ run.

Even if Marvel has 5 or 10 less events than the MCG during the winter, I assume that the thinking behind it is the AFL is out of town for gather around, and the MCG is vacant. So they could try and make an event out of it against a well supported team like the Warriors. Promote the game over the summer once the draw is made at a venue with so much history. Marvel may not have the same appeal as the MCG.

Having said all of that, i much prefer league games been played at a rectangular venue.
I get all that but the MCG has said that they are not interested. Marvel got great Storm crowds during the soccer WWC. You are much, much closer to the action than the MCG and it is also vacant that weekend. MCG is terrible with under 45k. The early SOO games at Marvel were awesome in terms of atmosphere and viewing, much better than MCG.

Marvel is a great stadium and very sell out- able for the Storm. So far the Storm sell out Anzac day and Warriors...Why not have a season opener at Marvel as an event game ( tradition) as League starts a week prior to AFL.

Oh there's heaps of kiwis here and the Wahs have the most potential as an away crowd drawer of all NRL clubs. It would actually been incredible for RL if the Wahs won a premiership or two in quick succession

These kind of crowds are crazy for super league

Think the highest they’ve averaged is 15k or so in the super league era so they are flying

It's pretty much entirely the pull of the Wahs.

If the Phins/Horses switched opponents this weekend you'd be looking at 25k and a sellout.
Two points here...

Yes, of course the Wahs swell the crowd as they do for any club when they are playing well.

Secondly the Phins have a core attending fan base of around 20k which is definitely at the higher end in the NRL. Broncos would have a core attending fan base of around 30k. Form and opponent determines how big each crowd gets from there.

So no, not entirely the pull of the Warriors, but it certainly helps

We need to unpack that and see if there is something they are doing that can be applied elsewhere.
