I saw Samrani in January close up at the pre-season training session i attended.

I must admit it shocked me close up what an athlete he was.

I just wasn't sure what his footy IQ and skills were like and what was his best position to really hype him up.

But his body shape was impressive and his movement.

He could become a gem of a signing if he keeps this improvement going.

Thanks Gus

He’s been a great acquisition for us so far. As mentioned, runs a great line and seems to relish the contact. I’ve been very impressed with what we’ve seen from him so far.

I remember seeing him standing next to Lomax in his FG debut and said to myself, he's a back rower, he's Ben Smith.

He had a much better shot playing first grade as a back rower than a centre at this club, competing against Wensini, Simonson, Russell and then young guys like Rensini,Nanva etc back row was far more open given he had shown hes first grade quality.

I like the willingness to roll the sleeves up and get stuck in and i love the physical traits. Long lean guy but still has decent quads and a huge wing span. I recon he could run around at 107kg no problem if he isnt already there.

Plus the ability to have a back rower you can kick out to centre these days is so important. A real blind spot we had during BAs time.

Cant wait to see him play an 80 min game at 2nd row.

I reckon starting with Jack in the 2nd row worked a treat the other night. Jordan can spell him after 20 and play 60 and Williams can move into to the middle rotation with Paulo, Moretti, Big Sam and maybe Doorey.

So a starting pack of:
Paulo
Smith
Moretti
Kautonga
Williams
Hopgood

Bench of:
Walker
Samrani
Tuivati
Doorey

I'll update the squad succession thread.

Edit: He's listed as development contract in the squad succession thread, meaning he was probably announced or reported that way on NRL.com. He is currently listed on the NRL signings tracker as one of 29 merkins in our top 30. Are you certain Ryles said he's on train and trial?
Yes, 8.15 min mark

Samrani is going good, shows promise......but gee I recall a few writing him off, after the first trial match, because a bad defensively decision lead to a try....

Moral of the story, give rookies time.....pretty difficult to rate a rookie until they have had a few nrl preseasons, and/or 50 or so games....

Russell is another example (who was getting a bit of negativity), won't be elite, but developing into a pretty solid nrl player....

Yes. His pass to Addo-Carr that led to Browns try was sublime.
It was executed perfectly. It showed a great deal of skill and a football brain.
He was more responsible for that try than any other player in that movement and the ball was only in his hands for less than a second.

The benefit of Russel is that he knows he is not the most naturally gifted but he knows he has to use who's around him like Dyl and JACs who are faster. All he has to do is defend strongly and link to his speed.

Reminds me of Ben Smith as a centre. He always had Grothe outside him and knew he had to get the ball to him and also very sound in defense

yes I know who does the paperwork, but the question was who identified Samrani's talent as an NRL player while he was playing Cup footy
Talent? lol the bloke is at best a reserve grader. He is TCT approved and rated therefore meaning overrated. We tried him at 3/4 and he was exposed. He’s done nothing special at all in first grade yet some paint him as the messiah.

I don’t see anything special in his game at all. And I don’t get the hype.

Not sure, but he was available and didn’t take much convincing seeing as he signed a train and trial deal, and was in reserve grade. Sound familiar as do most of our signings over the last 4 years or so.

His reserve grade form at Canterbury was good but nothing special. However, in his four NSW Cup games this year (yes, a small sample, so not necessarily reflective of his actual ability) he has been incredible. He's been solid in the NRL too. He might become a first grader.

Simrani was average Joe at Canterbury reserves. The fact that we have signed this type of player previously reflects our position on the ladder, which is what? LAST!

have we stooped that low as a fan base where we can’t recognise a decent player from An average reserve grader?

It’s this type of player (Simrani) that will keep us last.

if the Bulldogs thought he was half decent, Gus would not have let him go. I have nothing against Simrani, sure he’s a nice guy. But he offers nothing like many other plodders in our team.

what’s good about his game? He was exposed defensively as 3/4 many times and now he’s been shifted to the forwards. But what does he bring? Don’t see any line breaking ability, off load / skill nada. Has dropped the ball a few times

People comparing him to Ben Smith, as if Ben Smith was an immortal. Another waste of space.

Again, The fact he and many other average players of his ilk are in our team reflects our position on the ladder. LAST.

He’s also TCT rated, which means for sure he’s overrated.

Same...saw him Russell, hopgood and r penisini at the XS Cafe Kellyville Grove I believe late last yr...no egos from any of them and Samrani definitely a unit.
Has had a bad run of injuries previously with sharks and dogs...
He's a keeper.
Club should be extending a few of these blokes now...get it done..
No need to wait. With perf coming in competition for recruitment will be hot.
Tie down our good ones and potentials now...
