A place to chat about Bears official &confirmed signings and also rumoured, hearsay, scuttlebutt and gossip signings.

Wack a link for any official signing news. What’s the word on the street? Let us know.

Maybe @Perth Red @Centy Coast @Nuke can fill us in with what they are hearing around the traps.

Anyone got the article ?

Prominent Western Australian Peter Tinley says he is flattered to be mentioned as a candidate to become the inaugural Perth Bears chairman and says he will do everything possible to ensure rugby league is a success in the state if offered the role.
The Bears are hoping to appoint a coach, chair, chief executive officer and football manager by the end of the month to ensure they are prepared to start putting a playing roster together from November 1.
Under the agreement struck between the Western Australian government and the NRL, three of the original board members - including the chair - must come from Western Australia. An obvious chair candidate is Tinley. After a distinguished career serving in the Australian army turned his attention to politics, was appointed to cabinet in 2017 and served as a Minister from 2017 to 2021 in a range of portfolios.
The 62-year-old, who recently retired from politics, has been one of the driving forces behind the scenes in ensuring a Perth-based side returned to the NRL.

“Peter Tinley is a candidate, absolutely,” ARLC chairman Peter V’landys said on Thursday when asked about the Bears chairmanship.

“He is a man of great experience and certainly knows rugby league and how rugby league operates. He would be one in consideration.”

Tinley said he was humbled by V’landys’ comments.

“I was deeply flattered to be mentioned,” Tinley said. “I’ve been involved in, with many others over the past 15 years, about raising a Western Australian presence in the elite [rugby league] competition.”

Pressed on whether he would be interested in the challenge, the former Labor MP said: “My entire life has been in service, both in uniform and in parliament in a different uniform.
“I see this as a service to Western Australia that I would be very keen to take on if I was ever asked.”
A battle for the hearts and minds of Western Australians has begun following Thursday’s Perth Bears announcement, although winning over the local media will is another matter. A day after the Western Australian newspaper’s front-page headline of “Bad News Bears”, Friday’s edition followed up with “What will be the real price of the Bears?”
While the Seven West Media-owned masthead, whose owner Kerry Stokes holds the AFL rights, is unlikely to be kind to rugby league, Tinley believes league’s latest venture into the region will be a success.

“I have absolutely no question that Perth, Western Australia, is ready to join the NRL competition,” Tinley said.
“We have a state that is jumping out of its skin, is in rude health economically and thirsty for action.
“I’d remind people that 30 years ago, when the Western Reds were running around, that we had 1.1 million people in Perth, 20 members and 15,000 players. We now have three million people in Western Australia.
“If I was ever involved, I’d have big ambitions about what we could do this time.”

I saw that 180 free-agent list & there were a few there that would be decent signings to start up with. Some would have to pay me to let them play but that's another story...
I don't really keep up with the SL in England. Does a'one know how Brodie Croft has looked. Would he more suited to NRL now compared to when he left? And is there a'one else over there they could look at?

Keep an eye on Jaxon Purdue at the Cowboys. Played all his pre-NRL football in the halves, had occasional stints at Fullback and been starting at centre recently. Will only be 21 in 2027 which provides some youth to the squad, as well as flexibilty. Experience will en extremely important, although it will be equally important to target emerging talents such as Jaxon to balance both the salary cap and the squads average age.

Croft is a fringe first grader. Need one half with proven NRL experience and then a younger emerging player such as Jaxon Purdue (21 in 2027). Just not sure who that experienced half would be? Alternatively, match Purdue with Jamie Humphreys (25 in 2027) which will allow more funds towards an elite hooker, i.e
Harry Grant. Taking Melbourne's captain would be a long shot, but we'd have more than enough in the cap with younger halves to make the play. Purdue and Humphreys might be risky to give the reigns of the team to, but it will allow longevity in the pairing and reminds me Cherry Evans/Foran partnership Manly had.

Hughes extending with storm

surely will squeeze pezet or wishart or both out.
I hope we don't go after Wishart. He's a great 14, but was awful leading the Storm around against the Dragons a few weeks ago when Hughes was out. The conditions were wet and the attack was poor from both teams, but it wasnt the first time his been just average in the main jumper.

Keiran Dempsey for Perth Bears recruitment and Pathways. Currently holds that position for the Melbourne Storm, not to mention he was North Sydneys last ever coach for the 1999 season.

Billy played junior league with the Asquith Magpies, in the same side as Canberra Raiders fullback Kaeo Weekes.
Billy always played prop in the junior rep teams, very good ball skills and was handfull to stop.
In the juniors Billy always played both League and Union but took to Union route.
Have known Billy since he was 10 years old as my youngest son played league/union against him and in rep sides with him, nice kid.

He certainly has the chops for it. Big fan of Keiran.
Yeah I don’t know, I felt Keiran cost the Bears in last years NSW Cup Grand Final against Newtown with some of his selection decisions.
I honestly don’t see what Storm officials see in Bronson Garlick ?.
I’ve heard some things about the dropping of regular Halfback Ben Stevanovic since but that decision destabilised the whole side the week of the Grand Final.
