Gameday - Warriors v Raiders

Real battle there, conditions not great for attacking play and both sides aimed up in defence. Gee didn’t help the flow of the game at all either

Felt the Warriors got a bit caught up in the Raiders niggle and played into their hands a bit. Didn’t like Egan’s option taking on attack at the end of it

CHT, I’m still not sold, seems like the only time you notice him is when he is dinking attacking kicks up on the last

The NZ coverage and Larmer never improve do they
We won’t go far with CHT unfortunately.

Surely TMM is a better bet there

Not too upset at that result with our muscles out but I think it showed our general lack of attacking potency.

thankfully a few other results went our way this week and we stay comfortably in the top 5.

Agreed.

At some stage, despite our good attitude and strong D, the fact we can't score points must become a major issue.

We had so much territory late and we hardly looked like scoring. It's like 2024 all over again - the predictable, sideways attack.
Yep… thought we went wide too often. I know we got one with Roger early, but the conditions made going wide repeatedly risky.

Someone running a Briton Nikora type line against the grain might’ve caught a sliding defender off balance on the slippery surface.

Still, most of us just wanted a competitive showing at least and that’s what we got. Just a shame that after getting close enough to actually jag a win we couldn’t quite nail it.

The big blood-nut's even angrier now, he's off for ten!

Ps, I'll stop calling him that now. Just a light-hearted jab by me.
Took how many set restarts and penalties? 6+.
We give 4 away and CNK gets 10mins, it was stupid of CNK to hold him in tackle and to also expect to be treated that same as Raiders.
Tapine crusher tackle was 10mins last night for Panthers players, but not tonight.

OK, so Charnze dropped a momentum shifter, but that Canberra try was down to that Warrior jamming up in our ten/twenty.

8-6, six mins to the break. Papa has been strong since he came on. We might not have the grunt to contain him.

A great run of defence, holding out till halftime...undone by a head-shaker by Pompey. Offside at the last goaline drop-out! Only two given away though.

Eight-all, halftime.
Pompey with one of the dumbest plays I have ever seen.

Gee is having an absolute shocker, both ways
I feel we got 1 call go our way (happy to be shown more), they had Crusher no bin, more 6 agains and penalties for their sin bin, advantage not taken, lost balls missed, accidental offside on bomb missed, Tapine leading with his head in tackle, into Lekas head who lost ball. I've missed something else.

I feel ref was the difference today.

Interesting with CNK in bin and penalty down their end, down by 6, we didn't take the 2 points. Takes time off clock for binned player, gives guys a rest, makes it a 4 point game and you get the ball back off kick off.
We thought we could score inside their 20m zone down a player and we struggle in that zone with 13.

Ricky post match didnt bag the refs, surprise surprise. But knows he could be without 3 guys next week after match review so had to get a boot in there not to punish aggression.

The play that summed up how poor Gee was, was when Starling dropped the ball when trying to jump over the defensive line and he completely missed that, and then didn’t call the most blatant case of ruck interference you’ll see and called the Raiders for a knock on when Halasima walked back through the ruck

Not invested in it enough to recall many more, one that does come to mind as being tough was when he pinged big red for an incorrect play the ball

2, 1, 6, 2.

Thats how many points we have scored in the second half in the last 4 games.
I wonder if that is because sides get in rhythm with the predictable stuff we throw at them.

Yesterday looked exactly like 2024. We were 12th in points scored last year, and 14th this year - both of those defy the metres gained and percentage of territory we enjoy.

I still love the spirit we play with and the way we defend for each other, but there is a serious issue with our attack. When Metcalf is not breaking the line, we don't have anything. We can't put on a set play in the 20m line. We can't effectively use numbers. CHT is probably the most predictable 6 in the competition, as much as he can defend.

I know this will seem like a knee-jerk but I'm actually really gutted about yesterday. We should have won, but we couldn't do a damn thing on attack and it looked really bland...and it's not a new thing

not a knock on Metcalf because he needs to try and spark something, but he is going for a few all or nothing plays on his own at the moment. Guess the good side of that is that it breaks structure up and gives the defence something else to think about

I mentioned it further up the thread, I think when hot on attack, Egans options are part of the problem as well, he overplays the flat ball to a forward way too much and plays are continually wasted. The last genuine chance they had to score at the end yesterday he took a poor short side play that was knocked on

Yeah I've got no problem with Metcalf trying something a bit different, we are so formulaic in terms of what we do that I welcome it. The grubber on the 3rd in the second half was ill-advised (we did get a repeat set though) but at least he's backing his instincts and bringing something different.

CHT once scored a try in a Junior Kiwis game back-heeling a chip kick over his own head, but has now become the most predictable 6 in the comp. As I always say, he defends well but I just don't see him offering enough as a package. No problem with him as a 14.

Halasima ruck interference our main call, there was another, im forgetting. Big Red was a 50/50 ball plant incorrect play.
Ref lost control early and never let the game get into a rhythm.

Our attack inside the 20 has been poor all year, I am sure we are coming 16th. Niukore needed to dive harder at the line in the end, looked like a belly flop!
That's what I thought, it was almost like he was on a Sunday arvo visit to the Mangere Aquatic Centre with his mates.

Starling looking at 1-match ban
Tapine 3k fine for his shoulder charge - was that the one on Leka in second half that knocked ball free and was ruled knock-on?
Big Red 1.8k fine

Laban 1k fine for raising his knee
