Galvin v the Tigers

For a team coming first it’s a massive risk

Could blow up the season if the rest of the playing group don’t take well to this

Sexton and Mahoney did nothing wrong where’s the loyalty

Can’t see Galvin being a better player this year at seven than sexton

I can tell you for certain that the team coming second right now is watching with interest as the team coming first decide to pick themselves apart mid season and try to put all the pieces together again on the fly...

I have a lot of doubts it makes the Dogs better this season- I think Galvin has way more errors vs chances created and slightly suspect defence at this stage of his career than a premiership team might want.

Might make them better next season once they bed things in and sort their positions out.

Gus comes off rubbish here. He's had 20-30 years in the game (outside of playing) where we all know he'll push his own grandmother down the stairs to sign a player, and then tell everyone it was his neighbour that did it.

Yet he then wants to jump on a panel show, play like he's never said a false word in his life, and attack a guy who is doing his job, and to be fair I think Chammas has done a fine job throughout this Galvin drama.

Every week on Six Tackles with Gus, he runs the rule over other clubs. He said the Roosters like shiny things and were only signing DCE because he was available. He has been critical of a lot of things. He IS the media. And to carry on like the prick he was in that clip, is pretty weak.

Watch Matt Thompson give Gus a rail's run on Six Tackles tomorrow, when he should be grilling him further about his subterfuge and flat out flying in this Galvin scenario.

Gus says he's never met Lachlan Galvin. Anyone want to believe that?

Gus inadvertently gives himself up in that video…. Throughout the show he kept saying he’s never spoken to Galvin, but when Chammas talked about Toby Sexton and his future, Gus said to Chammas (at the 3 mins 45 second mark) that he spoke with Sexton on Friday and ‘was honest with him that he’d spoke to Galvin the day before on Thursday’.

Can’t blame Gus, he’s doing what he needs to do in his job as GM of the Dogs, but he’s been caught out, again. And it should be treated as tapping up.

Good catch.

I heard it as 'we had' but yeah, good get.

I don't think it's late breaking news with Sandra Sully that Gus is a liar when it suits him, however.

Galvin telling his mates before the board meeting granting him permission that he was off to the Dogs...but Gus never spoke to him.

Riggggggght.

It's a masterclass in using the media to your own ends from him and Isaac

I do believe that bit yes.

He is smart enough to use middle men. Anti-tampering laws are broken by every club however a picture or video of a GM with an opposition player would be a disaster.

Remember Wayne Bennett hiding in that cafe toilet years ago? Gus wouldn't want to be caught with his trousers down.

Fair enough. Gus is on the record saying he has no interest or care in the Nov 1 anti-tampering deadline. But yeah that may stem from the fact he just gets other people to do his bidding.

Semantics.

I agree 100% with you, and that's exactly the kind of semantics Gus would employ, but it's semantics all the same

Yeah he'd know too well. Direct phone call is believable but even then you run the risk of a 19 year old spilling the beans. So I could believe an intermediate was used there too.

Did the Tele have that camera on an extended pole to view into the Bulldogs mad Monday party years back? Found Adam Elliott stripping and dancing on a table. And Gus had that legal moment arguing with Joey outside a cafe years. The CCTV picture of the Panther Kikau in a Dogs shirt at the leagues club.

Gus probably can't even take a shit at Bulldogs HQ without checking for false mirrors in the lavatory. Regularly has his lackeys tap down staff before meetings to check for a wire.

That's Gus.

No doubt they broke the rules. He is probably doing it again right now for another move on their roster.

And this is where it’s all bullshit;

- Clubs can informally talk to contracted players, but just can’t make an ‘offer’… but could of course say ‘in a hypothetical world where you were available at this current time, we’d be able to pay you $X’, and that’s perfectly fine
- A ‘middle man’ can speak to any player and say ‘I reckon if you were available, this club would pay you $X on a 3 year deal’

It’s all bollocks, all clubs are guilty of these conversations and happenings in the shadows.

The only real fix to this issue is if the NRL enforce that once a contract is signed, only an extension/upgrade with the existing club can be ratified by the NRL for the duration of the contract. I just don’t think the NRL has the appetite to do that.
So that means, clubs can’t decide to bin off a player before their contract is finished, and a player can’t pull these bullshit tactics to force their way out.
Sign the contract, see out the deal. If you sign a big 5 or 10 year deal, that’s that - you’re locked in.

Just going to put it out there. I reckon the Tigers squad gets the sh*ts and goes on a run now.

Dogs have shot themselves in the foot for 2025, the comp is wide open now but something tells me Melbourne will get the cookies this year.

Finally on another unrelated note, every time I watch that Maccas NRL ad (the one with Ricky and the soft serves), I actually cringe at the part where Galvin is sitting with his Tigers teammates and he goes "six again braahhh?". They should update the ad so that Galvin is sitting by his lonesome on the Maccas play equipment, and his Tigers teammates are throwing nuggets at him (six again braahhh?).

The fix is, if you sign a contract for X amount for X years, that is your worth. If you go to another club within that period you can only receive the same amount you had agreed to in the initial contract.

99% of the agitation cases will disappear overnight if there is no more money in it for the managers.
