R13 v Newcastle Knights @ Kogarah

Will make my game review fairly short.

We got the 2 competition points, and at the end of the day that is all that really counts.

We respected the football last night.
Possession is everything in this game.

JDB and Klemmer were outstanding.

LKT learning and a work in progress.

Wow, I am extremely confident that we are going to have a very competitive and talented group of forwards leading us into the future and hopefully much better days ahead.

Sadly I am starting to think you are right about this @possm . I believe Sloan is a wonderful young man, and he some natural skills, but his inability to get "down and dirty" in the tough times indicates that he will not reach his potential. Lawson showed more gumption in one game than Sloan has shown all year!
How long til opposing teams direct all their attack, including cross field high balls at him? If an inexperienced teenage winger can out point him, what would an experienced hard head do?

As I’ve said for multiple games now, which a few have said are just excuses but I’ll go again after another injury! We have to remember we’ve lost in the forwards this year!!

- Molo
- R Couchman
- Sele
- Bmm
- Eisenhuth
- T Couchman ( few games)
- Egan

Now Sua.

I think our older blokes in this department have really stood up. And the juniors have been going great!
Even Lawrie have to say been happy with him in his shorter stints!

now who comes in for sua.

2 options :

- Play Toby on an edge (like last night) bring in a forward like Sele or Guler?
- Bring in RFM which I think perfoms better as an edge over a FRF.

This Year?

I still can't get over that 7 x scoot try. Once we had momentum we should have got 40+ but were still a bit clunky. To me it feels like our edgies aren't running the right lines or have the right shape, but it will be exciting when it comes.
The Knights got gassed out of it in the 1st half like how it's happened to us many times and our middle 3rd took advantage. It was great to see Lawson's debut and LPT getting his 1st try.
It may not have been the best quality game but we only play what's in front of us and I thought we did well to contain Sharpe. Our kicking game is still average but I'd take that over Bunt putting it out on the full. Also it was nice not spending most of the game coming out of our end with 40m sets for a change.
Sure beats losing.

I was at the game too. It was good to go into the half stress-free and confident we'd get the 2pts. (even if that was thanks to how bad the knights are)

Lawson was awesome. he's jumped the queue after that. it will be a shame to see him dropped next week. I'm a Sloan fan, hes had some good games this year and dropped off recently - but now there's finally some serious opposition to his spot. Have to admit a back 3 of Lawson Guth and CT looks like our strongest lineup especially given how low we are on forwards - any extra work from the back 3 count.

Thought the halves were good in every aspect except long kicking. not sure how to fix that in the short term.

Klemmer and Lawrie did well but they wont be able to do that consistently - a mid-season signing of a big prop would help massively.

love love love watching Toby, Hamish, LKT, LPT all come through. still makes me sad about RCouch and Egan.

good to win one we were meant to.
next 4 weeks: Dolphins, Sharks, Bye, Eels
3 winnable games will set us up nicely before a tough run home

I said earlier in the week that Newcastle were woeful and they proved that last night so it was a touch disappointing we didn’t ice those last 2 tries - however at least our for and against is finally positive - been a while since that has been the case.
Was also nice to have a relaxing game to watch for once.
Geez our young forwards are going to carry us into the future - some good ones there for sure.
Thought Klemmer was very good last night - a stop gap option sure but he’s been good all year as far as I’m concerned. Past his best but he’s reliable.
Can Flanno ban the early captains challenge?
The Cook / Liddle rotation is slowly getting a bit more balance to it.
Lawson has at least given Flanno something to think about - Sloan has to be hanging on to that wing spot by his fingernails…….
Hopefully we can sink the Dolphins next week and start scrapping for a place in the bottom of the 8.

We need to improve against the fins as they can score.

Yes, both of our halves need kicking practice. We need to kick long into the corners and to the weakest winger's side of the field.

Holmes should take some kicks in general play as he has a big boot.
And I'd add to that, both halves, particularly Flanagan, as he's doing most of the kicking need to work on bomb accuracy- too often the kick is too deep and our jumpers don't have the time to compete for the ball, they also need to work on "wobbler" bombs (kicking the belly of the ball as practised by Trindall and Burton), and 40/20s.

Ok,driving to a wedding and the missus needed to do some work, so I missed the kickoff.

20 mins behind the start I log on… and open the esky.

big smile on my face. Was glad for Win, but a fe notables

1) klemmer stepped up
2) big boy Blake playedmhis best game in 18 months
3) Lawson had a solid debut
4) LKT has always looked solid, bat im seeing glimpses
5) and my absolute favourite ”BIG Loko” gets down low and mosters his Wahlberg the line and ignores the defence to push the ball down! So so nice!
Hamish Stewart was amazing. Great work rate.

Also we don't run hard after the kicks they just amble.
Knights winger ran harder to compete.

Cogger and Gamble's kicks weren't great.
Gamble is a park footballer for me.

The boys could had had another couple of tries if they had managed to hold the ball , however the win was a much needed boost to their confidence at this stage of the season .

Each of the young guns showed very promising signs for the future , hopefully the Dragon hierarchy realize this and ensure that they have contracts for the coming years .

Unfortunately Sloan is too ‘ hot and cold ‘ for my liking and Lawson should be given preference over him . Lawson has good speed and you can see that he will go on to bigger and better things .

Not to flashy, a solid win.

Two half's reflected each other. Just didn't ice the two late tries.

Loko, great try. Couchman showing what he can do after his break, LTK starting to play a bit more footy and Klem doing overtime for the team. Second week in a row I'm giving Blocker some love.

Will give Val the benefit after SOO. Did very well against Gagai. Sloan's injury isn't helping however, Lawson right on his heels.

Thought the team is in a holding zone. Defence game this week. Hopefully with a few points in the bag, can show a bit more attack next week.
