Former Penrith centre Taylan May has undergone a medical at the Wests Tigers as he closes in on a return to the NRL.
May, who also had interest from South Sydney, is expected to sign a train-and-trial deal for the remainder of the season and play alongside his brother Terrell.
The Samoan international has been without a club since parting ways with Penrith last year after being charged over domestic violence allegations.
The charges were withdrawn three months ago and May has since spent time in a mental health facility undergoing treatment.

The Tigers have had a long-standing interest in the 22-year-old. Chief executive Shane Richardson met May when the charges were first withdrawn, prior to the outside back checking himself in for treatment.
The talks resumed recently after he checked out of the mental health facility. Souths coach Wayne Bennett also showed an interest in May and he was given a tour of the club’s Heffron Park headquarters.

However, the Tigers look to have won the battle to secure his signature pending the finalisation of a contract and board approval.
It is understood the NRL has been kept abreast of talks between May and his prospective clubs.
Taylan’s decision to join the Tigers creates the prospect that all three of the May brothers could turn out for the Tigers at some point down the track.
It is understood that brother Tyrone, currently in Super League, has expressed an interest in returning to the NRL as early as next season.

Hopefully good news.
We are the family club.
We have:
The Fainu Bros
The Laulillii Bros
Now the May Bros
TBH, I don't know anything about Tyrone?

He was decent in the NRL for the Panthers. He played half and lock. Personally I'd sign him as well. He would be pushing for a bench utility role in first grade and he'd make a decent squad member.

I don't know how or if these guys will behave but Terrell has been fantastic for us and he seems like a good guy to me from the perspective of how he handles himself on the field and the little I've seen of him off the field.

Wests Tigers are pleased to announce that Heath Mason has extended his stay with the club until the end of the 2026 season and will be upgraded to the NRL Top 30 effective immediately.
The new deal is a reward for Mason’s continued progression and growth since emerging from the Wests Tigers Pathways system last season.
The versatile 20-year-old has featured in multiple positions at NRL level since making his debut in 2024 and is a valued member of the squad.
Mason has scored two tries in his 10 NRL appearances to date and his electric footwork and pace are always a handful for opposition defences. He also averages 135 running metres in his three NRL appearances in 2025.
The Thirlmere-Tahmoor Roosters junior is pleased to remain with Wests Tigers into the future.

“I love this club and am so happy to be here for another year,” said Mason.

I have played all my juniors in the Pathways system at Wests Tigers and can't wait to keep growing and developing as a player here Heath Mason
A graduate of the club’s Pathways program, the local junior represented the Western Suburbs Magpies in the Harold Matthews Cup and SG Ball Cup competitions, before progressing to the Jersey Flegg Cup, Knock On Effect NSW Cup, and finally, NRL setups.
Mason was the starting five-eighth in the Magpies’ 2022 Harold Matthews Cup premiership win.
A former student at St Gregory’s College, Campbelltown, Heath captained the NSW Combined Catholic Colleges side to victory at the Australian Secondary Schools Rugby League National Championships in 2023.

He also previously represented the NSW City U/16’s and U/18’s teams.
Beginning the 2024 campaign playing SG Ball Cup, he made a rapid rise to the top grade, before making his NRL debut in the Round 15 win over the Gold Coast Titans.
NRL Head Coach Benji Marshall is delighted to see the young star commit to Wests Tigers.

“Heath has earnt this upgrade and extension. It is wonderful to see the Pathways system producing athletes such as Heath,” said Marshall.
“He is a great kid from a great family, and we look forward to seeing him develop further as a footballer into 2026.”

Mason's extension and upgrade makes me think that the club intends to make Heath a regular first grader.
I think he and Jarome could be our halves and Latu be a bench backup.
I say this because Latu can play dummy half and ½-⅝ which should be trialled imo.
Personally I'd like JL and LF as our halves but this is crystal ball stuff.
Also my feelings regarding DaSilva's departure grows stronger every day.
Api might not get get the extension that he wants with us too and may go to Perth.
If he does stay, what happens, another small bench?
Then throw in Sullivan too. What happens if Souths don't want?
Our bench against the Raiders is Fainu, DaSilva and Bird. We gotta have the lightest bench in the NRL.
KPP playing on right edge next year could influence Mason's selection working with him.
Someone will drop out.
