Trindall does not have the composure to be a 7 in my opinion. His decision making leaves a lot to be desired and he seems rushed a lot of the time. He's an out and out 6.

I can't even be bothered trying to work out what Hynes is anymore, whatever he had a few seasons ago has completely gone leaving us with a very expensive millstone around the clubs neck. He will never get offered a contract near what he's on now and I wouldn't expect him to walk away from that money so we're stuck with this issue.

The club signed a utility from a great system who they thought had the game to play 7 in a mid table team. He makes a immediate impact, wins the Dally M. Club thinks wow, we lucked into an elite player, better sign him to an extended elite player contract. Unfortunately, said player was a flash in the pan and has regressed badly. Cronullafied.

And remember he had Moylan outside of him, with all his faults Moyza could put a try on, so Hynes had that, when he had to be the key he couldn't

I think this is half the problem. Put a player like Moylan outside him now and maybe things would be different. Maybe. Didn’t too bad with Atkinson last year.

Maybe we go back to market.
Maybe we look what else we have in the pantry.
But whatever we do, we win nothing with this bloke.
Personally I can't stand watching his sideways and backwards running and the folding in fear... and...I actually feel sorry for the guy. Nobody likes to see someone continually fold under pressure.
SOO.
Top 4 finals.
Clutch plays.

I don't need to see this poor bugger go to shit again and again.
Can't be good for his mental health.
Plus I'm sick of the losing.

However, first thing I would do is put the 7 on Trindalls back. I believe you would see a different player.
Yep...he hasn't been great. But I reckon you can track this decline in many players form back to pre-SOO failure by Hynes where the side was flying.
I reckon this has created a situation where everybody knows there's an issue that will not be addressed and it's become a cancer through the side and created a head f**k.
When issues aren't confronted in any form of life, false scenarios are created.
Probably seeing the same thing at Manly with their halfback.

If we could offload Hynes for close to what he is on we can otherwise we need to use our depth.
There is a club normally dumb enough to buy players like this, Hello Flanno

Stop dreaming. NH is going nowhere. Imagine the negative headlines of us ditching him. Marketing dream boy. Not to mention he is going like a busted. No one wants him for the footy bit. Lock In, 4 more years.

Wrong. Flanno does NOT recruit many "elite" players. He loves a serviceable journeyman as his main recruitment strategy. He'd also have to pair him with Kyle and adopt Fitz's failed hybrid half strategy.

If we keep him for 4 more years, we might as well not watch the team, Hynes is finished when the pressure is on he fails to show up.
If he got dropped and made play Reggie's for 1 game I don't think he would ever be back in first grade, the shock being dropped he would basically give up

The only way he could make it in the halves is with the 6 on his back and with a dominant half and all he has to do is run.
That's all he is...a ball runner.

Not only do we have him at 7 we have farked the actual 7's head so he doesn't know what his role is. There's an official unofficial pecking order of Hynes, daylight then Trindall.
Nobody will admit it. But Trindall sees the ads, the billboards, the pay check and he knows who the main man is.
What is Trindalls role?
Hes been halfback all his life.
What's his role now?
It's certainly not a running game.
Hes not the organiser.
What is it?
the coach has been saying for 2 years theyre still learning...someone's not getting it.
Does the club provide learning support for slow learners?

Hynes at 6 playing alongside cleary or Moses he would have a career. Hes probably worth 500K at a stretch give or take 100K depending on how good he is and if he goal kicks.
No pressure.
He's a dylan brown. Brilliant running game when Moses plays he only has to catch and run.
When Moses was injured they couldn't win a game and he was useless. All the talk was knights have bought a lemon.
They're paying him a mill next year.
As 7. Obrien and Fitz. Very good assistants apparently.
Both being found out buying halfbacks it would seem.

Almost ready to join the “Hynes at fullback” wagon. Not because I believe it would be good but at least Fitz would make a drastic change.

downside would be all the F-heads at Murdoch would be like “har har we knew it all along and told you so”

We have gone backwards. This was a year I thought we would make the jump and fix the dumb f**king shit. Roster needs a shake up and Fitz needs to do some changes. The players look so flat and uninspired. Nicho's last 10-15 minutes was diabolical.

It has been a horrible 4 games of footy even with the Dragons win.

Fitz went all in with a continuity strategy. He aimed to build what was here and add strategic pieces selectively. Hynes and Finucane were early signings. Kaufusi to bolster middles coming through. Then AFB was the marquee. Lots of retention with blooding of emerging players such as Hazelton and Iro.

The team has built over 4 years and last year won a semi, which was a monkey off the back and pushed Penrith (without ever really threatening them) in a GF Qualifier. The plan was that with the addition of AFB and the existing pieces, they could take the next step. Like you say, this progression was a reasonable expectation.

What has emerged this season is a seemingly systemic issue that manifests as staleness. They can't sustain focus and the required standards for 80 mins. They look for shortcuts. In short, they do not have a winners mindset. It's more collective than individual even though we see individual actions such as Ramien's 5 minutes of ill discipline that gifted them the first try and Hynes playing for obstruction rather than making the tackle.

The risk of continuity is that it can breed complacency. The coach has to shake them out of this mindset quickly or they will have wasted this window. The coach has shown loyalty but may have overplayed that as the team lacks hard edge. Big decisions coming and no decision is a decision.

I’m at the point where there needs to be a clean out of the coaching staff, possibly the performance staff as well. We look the slowest and physically weakest of all top 8 sides

Steve price, Holdsworth and Hannay. What’s happening there? Are they providing the assistance needed?
We all know Fitz ain’t going.

Who are the winners in the club? No one has the Jimmy Maloney mindset.

The question is have we really improved under Fitz.
As a club we have made the semis every year bar 2 from 2012
2014 Peptide
2021 sacking of Morris as coach.

It's more we have treaded water 1 finals win in 6 under him.
That is only our 2nd finals win post 2016.
We are 2 from 12.
That team yesterday 12 of them were in Fitz team from round 1 and 2 in 2022.
Some of the squad have developed but no where what is required, he talked about them needing games, whilst Panthers were winning with close to same experience.
Last year yes top 4 but we were a mile off the top 2.
The squad has hardly changed, he has let players basically go on own accord, when we could see they should have been moved on prior.
Contracts extended when they shouldn't have been, and in 4 years a very small percentage of players making the debut compared to other clubs who have been in finals.
It has the feel of Brad Arthur, where the board will keep saying they are making the finals it's enough to keep them happy, but when the drop off comes it is going to be nasty, and for us with Perth and possibly PNG coming in people fighting more for players.
You can feel we will lose our quality youngsters as there pathway is so slow, and be left with overpriced veterans we can't offload.
I don't see we have improved under Fitz but have just gone a different circle as we basically all wanted change no more Morris as our defence had collapsed and no more SJ.
What we have now is a stubborn coach, who can't see Hynes is not a halfback, and a captain for as tough as he is not a lock in the modern game.

I realise that we don’t have any legitimate options to bring up from the Jets.

We have nothing to lose - if we keep on playing the same way our season is over.

So why not TRY Trindall at 7 and Hynes at 6?

Let Trindall at least try to run the team…

And pick someone else other than Atko on the bench.

I actually think if he tells Hynes he is wearing 6 he won't be able to handle it.
Out of left field of CV or the Angel are fit , have them at centre.
Trindall at half and Talakai at 5/8, he can set up a try and also run through them for a try
