Was there any reason the Perth game wasn't given the Sunday evening game?

I do feel like it's been a bit different from previous years. Perhaps a greater focus on TV ratings over crowds coming up to the rights deal.

The thought was Dolphins and Knights fans would come over for Origin and stay for the HBF game then fly home Sunday. As it happens hardly any did!

Absolutely dire from the Tigers, Souths, Eels and Perth this weekend. Roosters managed a good crowd playing an out of town team without relying on away fans to draw a crowd.

With the binfire that is Super League one would think English fans would have better things to worry about than a club on the other side of the f**king planet in a country they've never been to and a club they'll likely never go to.

I like Cronulla. Particularly the junior league. Template for all SL clubs.

So what? What happens when they have an NRL team that plays there 11 times a year? What happens when Origin comes back to Perth and the Bears are in the comp? It's the reality of being in the NRL

I like Cronulla. Particularly the junior league. Template for all SL clubs.

My gripe with Cronulla is that they show no mindset to maximise their crowds. Why not show some initiative and play one or two of their big games at the SFS. Make it an event like the Roosters did today.

They are an expansion market. You need to be smart with scheduling just like we are with Melbourne. Same reason I don't judge them as harsh as I do with the Sydney teams.

That’s just the thing they aren’t in the NRL. If you played a game of Canberra vs the knights in Brisbane 2 days after origin what sort of crowd would you get charging those prices?

When the bears are in the comp Perth will have their own team to support and presumably will build up a fan base who will want to attend games.

Crowds were very solid this weekend. There were no real surprises. Just unrealistic expectations for a post Origin round. Should get around 150-160 thousand this week. The game rolls on. The whinging continues.

I’d suggest that with the growth in crowds a few clubs need to look at crowd maximisation strategies. It’s not a problem we’ve had before. But it’s not as simple as scheduling a game at a larger ground. Just ask the Rabbitohs. The roosters had the luxury of playing at the best ground in Sydney with a 4pm Sunday game. They are going well and they are the only club playing at that venue. And its fanbase lives in that area.
As for the Sharks, the club is still dealing with issues relating to the Development. The ground will return to 18000 capacity. It’s leagues club will reopen. But that’s all held up due to woeful decisions by previous administrators.
And yes it should try to market a couple of big games at the SFS in my opinion. But don’t fool yourself that it’s a tried and true strategy by using the roosters as a model.
And the health of the game is not determined solely or even to a significant extent by crowds.
The NRL is in rude health, is expanding, has record participation , sponsorship, tv ratings, crowds and wealth.
This thread has a history of irrational expectations, morbid whinging when they aren’t met, and endless bickering.
May it never change.

If we had to move grounds it'd make more sense to buy Caringbah Oval and turn it into a 30K stadium.

It’s pretty clear we’ve not been able to cater for a comfortable crowd over 20000 for some years. TBH it’s difficult to see what the NRL and the Sharks have in mind to maximise club crowds. Manly seems to be comfortable with an 18000 capacity and draws very little whinging from the mob here. Ideally you’d have a 30000 stadium catering for the Dragons and Sharks but there is no suggestion that is ever going to happen. TBH apart from the perennial complaints on this thread nobody else seems to care about this issue too much. Too many great things are happening across the game. Apart from a pack of miserable poms and two or three others on this thread it’s a non issue.

During Origin period, there should be low expectations on crowds. Games are played without Origin players. And in recent times, coaches rest players after playing Origin.

NSW-Qld play on Wednesday night, people talk about the game the next day. Friday and the weekend comes around with a round of matches that's barely had any focus or attention. The comp is sidelined.

With Parra- Titans, it was played at a casual timeslot of Sunday njght. Were fans aware that there was a Sunday night game? Next week there is nothing in that timeslot. Additionally Dolphins-Knights match in Perth should have been in the Sunday night timeslot.

In the next tv deal there needs to be an overhaul in Origin scheduling. As Bennett said, get it over and done with in 24 days. Origin period drags on too long. Just like the Big Bash League.

Pretty sure we wont have a game Wed costing $200-300 then one 3 days later costing $70-100 lol

Think the Dragons have to make up their minds about whether they're a Sydney club or a Illawarra/South Coast club.

In their case it should be the latter.

The juniors in the St George area a sick joke thanks to St George area being now predominantly a Chinese & Greek area who are more into the round ball game.

They should just move to Wollongong fulltime permanently and the remaining clubs in the St George juniors should go with us and Canterbury.
