no I didn’t.

I used an example of a loaded question.

now back on topic you sent thinly veiled threats to me via private messages.

true or false??
The topic is the dire state of rugby league in England. Try and stay on topic perhaps? And I’d appreciate it if you didn’t publicly accuse me of being an alcoholic. Making that accusation over 100 times really is bad form.

All you have to say is no I didn’t send you thinly veiled threats via private messages if it wasn’t true.

Now maybe you might want to address the topic? The game in your country seems to see Australia as its meal ticket out of disaster. Pretty pathetic if you ask me.

actually that was another poster who proved you lied about not drinking alcohol by producing various past posts of your own proving otherwise.

i just liked to remind you of your lies and hypocrisy.

Worth comparing and contrasting today with 1990/91. Retrospectively recognized as the midst of a halcyon period.

The game had certainly grown during the 80s after declining in the 70s. The 1990 Kangaroos tour emphasized the point, penetrating the national consciousness to an unprecedented extent.

And yet, only Wigan and Leeds recorded 5-figure average attendances. Hull FC averaged 7k, Hull KR 5k, Saints under 8k, Wire under 6k.

very interesting time period for the game in the UK at both domestic and international level around the time of the late 80’s to early 90’s era.

genuine superstars of the game like Hanley, offiah, Davies and Schofield that transcended the sport thanks largely to terrestrial tv giving RL national exposure.

i think only Wigan were the sole genuine full-time club in the game at this time.

i think maybe Leeds and possibly St Helens soon followed suit before the game at the top level i.e. 1st division went fully professional with the launch of super league.

Crowds are about the only positive.

RL never had fta covg other than Challenge cup on Beeb.

Its now got FTA covg for the top comp for the first time in many decades. Crowds are some of the highest we've ever seen with an avg around 10k, stadium facilities are better than we have ever seen. Its not all as doom and gloom as some like to make out.

The game is twenty years behind Australia at a minimum. Participation is particularly woeful. I thoroughly enjoy watching it though. It’s not beyond help.

Its about the same as Queensland. In a country where football dominants all its not bad.

Games been 20 years behind Australia since 1980 lol. Largely due to money. Pokies in the early days saw Australian RL forge ahead, and in more recent years the media deals Australia now gets has kept its financial situation much healthier which it can then invest in growth activities, pushing it ever further ahead.

Its a pointless comparison though now, NRL in NSW and Qlnd doesnt have any real competition, SL is dwarfed by football in England and always will be.

regal trophy and GB internationals were on grandstand.

im sure the old 1st division was on ITV but quite possibly regional stations?

it’s definitely punching above its weight and with some investment could easily go up a few levels.
