Don’t think Ryles is the problem, would seem to be the same people that have been at the club for over 5 years. Unfortunately the issues that are a concern haven’t gone away .

I have already committed to giving Ryles 4 years. I think he can do it.

Mate, don’t get me wrong, everyone who knows me for more than 5 mins knows I’m an eels fan. But you’ve got to try to insulate yourself if it’s taking over your life. It’s just footy. I genuinely don’t believe that if we win a comp my life would be better for more than about 12 hours.

The key stat. An attacking dummy half is nice to have, but every quick play-the-ball exploited by the hooker is one fewer that might've been better served by shifting a pass or two away from the ruck.

But middle defence is the foundation for every team's success, and the hooker is a major part of that.

He’s very young. I’m sure he’ll be worth $650k one day, and it might be as soon as next year. But what if it doesn’t happen next year? What if he’s not worth $650k until 2028 (aged 23)? Is it worth overpaying him for two years just to get value out of him in the third/fourth?

Just putting this back out there in regards to TDS. Might be a good player one day but doesn’t add anything to us for next year. Better off trying to sign a bigger body 9 that can take the heat early and then cover the middle later if required. Or a proper utility that can play a bit of 9.
