I don't even know if Smith is better than him now. Definitely a better defender but his attacking game is quite plod. He's diet Reed Mahoney with no mongrel at all.

Anyway like I said you can take about 25% off any media figures. I actually still think it's overs but I doubt it's that per year given our cap position, it will be heavier at one end and we lock down a promising spine player across years where one or two new clubs are going to be muddying the pool so it's not ridiculous IMO

650k ? He’s not an established first grader yet lol

I suspect it's a figure completely picked out of thin air or out of the writers butt.

Earlier this year the DT were reporting that the Roosters had re-signed Naufua Whyte on a deal averaging at over $950,000 per season - that's only a few thousand more than what Payne Haas is currently on. Whyte is good but he's not at that level.

Which is $750k in opposition club speak
$285k in paying club speak
It all seems reasonable & fair in salary cap auditor speak
And its minimum wage + a golf membership & lunch thrown in with Nick in Politis speak

Salaries are impossible to know. You can look at 3 media reports and theyll all report differently. Managers tell their journos higher then it is so they look like they did a great deal. Clubs tell their journos lower then it is so fans think they got a bargain.

End of the day clubs pay what they think a player is worth. Theres likely payment on potential here, a deal like this one wont really be able to be judged until year 3 or so.

Weidler linked us with Jake Clifford and Toby Sexton on 100% footy... thought Sanders was going to take over the reins? Knowing sticky though he can be resistant to rookie halfbacks...

I dont think that'll be an issue, i think he's pretty invested in Sanders
We've seen Stuart change a little bit in this regard in the last 18 months and he's turned the squad over to younger players.
Whoever comes to take our money will do so understanding it's Strange-Sanders and they're primarily there as injury insurance
If he wanted a veteran half to actually play a ton of FG, we'd have just kept Fogarty

We're interested in Clifford as a back up.

The Sexton stuff is nonsense.

I'd read it as more Sticky has gone off Cook as a backup/mentor reggies half than off Sanders. With a rookie half there's every chance your backup plays a few games so he wants someone reliable.

Ricky has stuffed up a few decent rookie halves in his time even when he's been invested in them. Exhibit A - Jamie Soward.

He's doing pretty well with Strange
And Aiden Sezer played his best footy under Stuart, George Williams came over and was great where most ESL halves come here and struggle badly, and Jamal Fogarty has improved out of sight under him.

Stuart for a long time was a halves killer, but recent history has been quite good.

Jack in 2019 & 2020 was an elite level 5/8 also.

The fact he regressed after that has a bit more to do with Jack imo.

Doubt any other nrl clubs gives him a chance so back to super league

What an awful signing

I think it's a classic case of someone signing for a previous coach and not being at all part of the new ones plan. He certainly has looked more a halfback than Bud Sully. Wayne just doesn't seem to give a shit that he's there at all...didnt he meet him by saying "Oh, you're the Pom" and walking away?

He might have been shit either way, most Poms are, but that's a hard spot to come up from

But that would mean Souths would have to pay him out. Cause no ESL club is taking up that contract. He must be some sort of distraction for that to be the path they want to take. That's lots of stones he is kicking.
