Following the National Rugby Leagues RFP process, and a lot of soul searching the founding members Bid Kieran Bligh, Duane Fyfe and Tony Kidd have decided to close down their bid. Frank Endacott, Poto Williams and Colin Groves have decided to maintain the South Island NRL Bid. I wish them well with their future plans.
We’re optimistic about the possibility of a 2nd NRL franchise for New Zealand encompassing the South Island. We are pleased our efforts managed to put the South Island of New Zealand in with a real chance of being an NRL expansion side. It’s exciting to see the level of interest from other bids and we wish them every success our driver has always been increasing the profile and recognition of New Zealand as a powerhouse of rugby league. Our passion is with the clubs and their supporters and creating real pathways for our young men and women who play league.
Good luck to the various bids who will take this to fruition and individually we will support them in any way we can.
We wish all bids, including the Orcas and Keas success in bringing an NRL club to Christchurch.

The Warriors should have absolutely zero say about whether another franchise out of NZ should exist.

Lets look at the brutal facts without our Warriors small minded big fish small pond sleeping giant glasses on.

The Warriors have not won a comp after more than twenty years of trying, so they should logically have no say over whether another franchise should get a shot.

Bear with me, let me apply logic, lets remove the parochialism of geography and the tribalism of small minded New Zealanders.

Would any of you accept the Warriors blocking any Australian based franchise?
No?
Then tell me how your Geo prejudice applies logically in this results driven business where every single Australian team has to compete against a dozen plus other Australian franchises?

How can Warriors complain about one team in a country this size when Australian fans face sixteen teams and fifteen within their country, yet the NZ Warriors are crying about one franchise in a population of five million.

The Warriors could not win this thing after Twenty years, which means their chance of winning it in the next twenty is marginal.


Sorry but I find Warriors fans in general to be pretty ill informed since the vast majority I talk to see a second NZ franchise as a threat rather than what is actually would be, which is a doubling of promotion of the sport and therefore potentially millions more fans who would back both clubs if they can deliver success.

Based on the Warriors stocks currently I believe we are ten years away from success. which is why worrying about a second NZ franchise is way wide of the mark.

Yea man, even with all the govt money it’s a massive task just getting off the ground.

They gave themselves only 3 yrs to set up a brand new team from scratch, including building an entire compound to house players, staff and families… but have already spent 7 mths just putting a Board in place.
