no, how your power is generated has nothing to do with the efficiency of an appliance

if you generate your own power with an onsite renerable energy plant, then its nothing, but if you are buying your power then its aprox 33 to 37 cents a kw/hr depending on where you buy your power

Thermostat, Element can go but cost $40 each and easy to change. If replace the rod in HWS every 8yrs the tank will last 50+

Heat pumps are like having an air conditioner attached to your HWS. IF something goes it will be $$ and parts maybe hard to source. You may save a few bucks on power I guess.

They have a high COP (coefficient of performance), they work on relocating heat from he air to the water, and the COP is just the cost of relocating that heat, whereas gas or electricity are a forms of energy that is being transferred to another form of energy (yes, heat is a form of energy)

So gas is about 80% efficient (about 20% goes out through the flue), electricity is about 100% and heat pumps are approximately 300% as they use heat that already exists and simply reloate it

Instantenous gas uses much more energy but only on demand as you are not paying to keep a large tank of hot water at 70 degrees 24/7

It's funny that we were told gas is better electricity bad but it's about 28% cheaper to use the heat pump. When adding 20degC to 1 litre of water at 12 degC.
