Frankus I can't disagree with you're comments. Especially with Patea coming through too.
Blokes like Smith, Henry probably need an upgrade. There are some good kids coming through too.

Flegg won well tonight. Cup players leading at 1/2 time.

Garner filled in well for a number of years. He was also able to fill in at centre at a stretch too.

I'll trust the coaching staffs on when to pull the pin on players........they see and have access to a lot of information about blokes like Garner too.

I'm sure Ivan and Matt are currently going through the rugby league bargain basement bins out the front of the rugby league shop that sells players too. Ivan and co have done well if they chose to go in that direction.
I hate going over this again but Garner was a Tigers reject, he's on the BEST value contract at the club and is signed for next year.
Releasing him only hurts the cap. Its nonsensical

I don’t understand the uproar over Garner’s departure. He’s 30. He’s also good enough to start at a number of clubs but not with us if we are at full strength.

Good luck to him if he does indeed move on in 2026.

He’s been better than Martin and Sorensen for 2 seasons now - and can only assume he’s on significantly less than both. I don’t think anyone can debate that. Also more than adequate NRL centre that’s served us very well every time he’s been called upon.

Bumping him and keeping him for a couple more seasons is a lot better than going to market and coming back with an inferior player but saving $50k. I assume the plan is to push Hassett (who we’d also need to upgrade to keep) into that role given he’s playing a lot of centre in cup but up until Hassett debut, no one seemed to think he was near first grade standard.

Despite Hassett being our best player in that awful Newcastle game. Surely the club would benefit from testing him in grade again and having a better look.

Mediocre player who can play a bit with momentum.

Had an above average season in 2023 before regressing back to Flanno Jr levels since.
He's been nowhere near the Flanno/Cogger for over 3 seasons now, if he ever was, most hookers suck (and get made fun of online) until they're more experienced. He's fundamentally sound with all the base skills who's biggest problem was overplaying his hand, but he's having too visibly good and loud a season now for us to swoop in at a bargain.

He can cover halves well enough, as good (or bad) as Schneider. Probably earned himself a place somewhere on more than the minimum we'd be looking to offer him after tonight though.
Billy is no spring chicken. It would be a hard pass from me and I seriously doubt he would even consider leaving SEQ.

Id prefer Josh Kerr as a moderately priced middle option who might have a few years legs and is exactly the type of player that could pretty quickly look like a genuine rep player in our system. Not sure he’d move to Sydney though.

Flicking Garner makes no sense. Particularly if Sorro is going as well. Unless there’s a solid edge replacement coming back. I’d be happy to keep Hassett as a depth option but one injury and you’re playing a 1 gamer in the starting side is straight dumb. Let Sorro & Geyer walk, start Garner, Ice is there as a middle or edge on the bench as neede. Get Clarke, Lipowicz and Armstrong a few games experience before Garner takes his final deal elsewhere and Hassett is a depth option in emergencies.

Garner our best backrowers for 2 years running? I don’t share that view. Look he has been good for us and won a couple of premierships because he is versatile and a solid player. He would be in the 17 at probably most clubs. He probably starts at most clubs running 11th to 17th. So I can see why many wish to retain him.

Me personally, I’m very indifferent/neutral about Garner. I wish him all the best though.

Also I don’t think Hassett is the answer.

I would have liked us to make a play for Davvy Moale but I think that ship has sailed and he got a 12 month extension at the Bunnies. He’s still so young for a middle and has played a healthy number of 1st grade games.

If we don’t keep both Schneider or Sommerton, we need cover there - I would think Schneider will be re-signed much to everyone’s dismay. Maybe we could get Illias in as a backup - I think there is a player there.

Other options for bench spots or squad depth from outside that would probably be cap friendly - Docker-Clay, Lisati, Thomas Fletcher. Slim pickings out there.

unfortunately I don’t watch enough QLD or NSW cup anymore.

Each to their own but imo he should be in starting for us. And I think he’d be held in much higher esteem if he’d come through our ranks as opposed to being an off cut from the Tigs.

Coggers stint in the GF gets talked about a lot but Garners contribution turned the tide as well.

No Garner means either Salmon or Zac Hosking closing out two GFs at centre against the best attacking edges in the NRL in either season (without Garner being in the squad we keep one of them for 2024 IMO, otherwise Mavrik In 2024...).

Thank f**k we had him.

Rumour has it we are skint. A few players are on back-ended contracts that rise next-year and 27.
Any newbies will be cheapies, or heavy subsidised by other clubs.
If we are after all losses and letting Fish go home early then questions need to be asked.

If it's true we need to maximise the Perth effect and send a few over
