Exactly what we need...and well stated by Watsford re Kyle....he was always bought in as a utility and forced to play 7 due to Hunt and Armone leaving.

People calling for to rookies in the halves are kidding themselves....Kyle fills the spot with a Lykhan King Togia being the rookie coming through.
I said this the other day literally word for word that Kyle was just filling the spot due to Amone & Hunt.

I just listened to the Dragons Den podcast with the new CEO. As has been stated, he said all the right things, including several comments on recruitment that I was very pleased to hear. My hope now is that he follows through on his plans for the Dragons and makes the club a powerhouse again. Fingers crossed that he succeeds!

I thought Reed was the next big thing now that we let Glover go, then the CEO says we're going to go after a marquee halfback of which only one or two will be on the market and all of a sudden everyone gets excited and no mention of Reed anymore.

It is sad how a few meek words from someone in authority can make so many fans forget all the issues at the club.

He will
He is Results driven only as it should be and that might scare quite a few on here

Am I the only one who is struggling to understand what Watsford is saying about a number of things?

Firstly, it appears we are bringing Atkinson to the club to play half. I follow the NRL media pretty closely, so I think I'm right in saying that Atkinson's specific role in 2026 has not been made clear until recently. Atkinson has not displaced either Hynes or Trindall at Cronulla in the halves despite Cronulla playing busted for some time. He has played on the wing for the Sharks when brought on so obviously they regard him as a utility player. Imo, there is no clear evidence what his best position is but we've decided he is a half-back. Based on what?

Second, and contradicting that, Watsford says we are in the market for a marquee half. If I'm Atkinson, I'm thinking-what does that make me?- chopped liver?

Third, he says- I'm sorry to see Jack De Belin leave- but then went on to say it was a business etc etc. Not buying that- De Belin has been one of the first forwards chosen week in, week out and, as I posted previously, will probably play till he's 40. If they wanted to retain him, there were many underperformers- backs and forwards-who could have been released or not renewed if they wanted to retain him.

Not a promising start from WHAT?sFORD imo.

Letting go of De Belin was absolutely the right call expansion teams are coming in & we need to secure the young forwards we have seen young guys get impatient as of late & leave because their path is blocked watch in less then a season how much media attention the Tigers will get because they decided to keep Api over Da Silva if you think it’s bad now we haven’t seen anything yet.

Very well said and I agree 100%

On reflection I think the remarks from Watsford about trying to sign a marquee half, was a bit of a power play to make it clear to Shane Flanagan that his son will not be playing half back next year. I'm sure both Shane and Kyle were taken aback by the CEO overriding them both in a public forum.

Besides that, we need a couple of marquee front rowers, we have second rowers coming out the wazoo, but the front row needs to be improved upon and should be the highest priority IMO.

So Mr CEO says Nepo Kid is a 14. So with a marquee 7, or Atkinson for that matter, why in the hell would you carry Nepo Kid in your 17? You have Cook and Liddle in hooker rotation leaving 3 bench spots. There is no way in the world in today's game you could afford to have him on the bench at the expense of 3 forwards/impact players. And he occupies a Top 30 spot for the next 2 years, spare me

You could be right about the message this was designed to send to the Flanagans but in relation to our forwards I don't see a lot of depth of experience and quality beyond Sua and Egan in the edge forward department. JH is obviously a class act but is still to play an NRL game. Luch, RFM to me are among those I would have shopped/discarded to keep someone like De Belin. For mine, we need both edge and marquee front row depth.

Do you think Shane brought Kyle into the squad to play 6 or 7 knowing that he would lose Hunt and Amone and Volkman. Or do you think that he brought him as back up hooker/half or 14 as our depth was shite?
