Hey Timana.
I'm sure heat pump HWS can be great. But most tanks will rust out within 12yrs unless change the rod which 99% of people won't.
It may half your electricity costs and save you about $250 a year in power but your paying $3,500 more. If something breaks you won't get someone to repair within 24hrs like a standard tank.
Air cons are also mulitpurpose cooling, heating, dehumidify. They are also extremely efficient. I'd go as far as saying probably around 7-1 when compared area capacity and current draw compared to an old style element heater. And also warm room 5x as fast. They are a very efficient way of heating.

I have a fireplace and now that ive got 14kwh of solar i just use the aircon.

I did pay $3300 for my istore heatpump it does say 10 yr warranty but I figured i was paying like $300 every 2 to 3 months for gas, if it lasts 2 to 3 years I'll get my money back. But probably even faster as solar runs the heatpump and gas prices keep rising. If it does break down i might go back to the old conventional hot water system instead

please google the above issues and do some research, COPs for a heat pump are generally 2.5 and some up to 3.0 but 5 and 7 is just nonsense

and copper tanks don't "rust"

Hot water tanks rust and leak the anode rod prevents rusting the tank.
I was talking cost in total. Supply and install.
Most people are able to put in themselves.
