Was pretty sure they already did but wasnt sure on the details so had to go looking.

Telstra Tracker is gps (and other sensor) based, and player speeds are often reported off the back of that data.

Found this article from just before Magic Round - check out who they mention had the quickest recorded speed amongst halfbacks and backrowers...

Not at all surprised at Leka especially or Metcalf. Didn’t realise Seb Kris was that quick though

Yea man Kris was a surprise for me too. They really do have some wheels in that Raiders backline don’t they.

In other news - Code sports is reporting Boyd will take the 7 jersey this week and surprisingly, DWZ will play as well.

Stoked for Boyd. Been toiling away in Cup while waiting for a crack, even turning down a potential opportunity back in Aus. Instead he stuck with us and now he’s got his opportunity.

Hope he kills it, for himself personally as much as for the team.
Yep, HUGE sign of what he's about when he turned down the Cows to stay with us. And it's now paid off. I think he's going to go great guns.

Yeah, I mean, I wasn't big on the Boyd signing, but he's been playing well in NSW Cup. Has earned a shot. Hope he goes well.

Boyd better play well, Warriors fans on social media have been going on about him that much I'm already sick of him.

I think the Boyd signing has been absolutely perfect.

People were anti the Boyd signing because they had no idea how to assemble a 30-man squad. Webby always had Metcalf and CHT as his preferred halves pairing. The club is in a position now where we are able to satisfy players that they might stay in NSW Cup for extended periods of time, but the door is always open above. Boyd has been comfortable that our club will make him better, so much so he's turned down the Cows, where he might have been a shot at playing 7 next to Dearden - you could argue he is more likely to get FG time up there given the Cows aren't certain on who they want to partner Dearden, he's an Origin player etc.

Now, with Metcalf injured, we have a guy who is proven at NRL level to step in. We could have had another, TMM, who could have filled that role. No club in the NRL has that luxury. None. That is very strong squad management.

The only place we really need to beef up our depth is the outside backs, where we are really struggling at the moment. But our depth through the spine is exceptional. Even at hooker, we could pick Egan, Healey, Lussick at a push etc. Fullback, we have options galore.

Haha man you are so cynical at times, you'd give a smile a frown. As above, I think Warriors fan are optimistic we can cover it, we want hope. In the past, it might have been Tui Lolohea going to 6, or Jett Cleary coming in way before he was ready.

I totally agree with you about halves depth, it's obviously terrific. To have both Boyd and TMM waiting in the wings is a luxury - although with that being said, Boyd has been in the NRL for a number of years and hasn't been able to lock down a first grade spot, so my expectations are hardly through the roof.

My main quibble is the hype around Boyd (from sycophant social media fans who I'd probably be best to ignore tbf) is unfair to TMM who still seems to be out of favour for no obvious reason. On merit/form he deserved to start in the halves this season, but Webster took a punt on CHT and it worked out, so all power to him. Then Boyd and TMM started the NSW Cup season in great form as a combo, but Boyd was able to lock down a spot while TMM was "promoted" to the bench in first grade. The result seems to be that Boyd has leapfrogged TMM as a halves option and TMM has almost been punished for being in first grade.

I'm not saying there's any kind of deliberate diabolical plot behind all this, but the effect is that TMM has gone from a starting half on merit to our #4 halves option without doing anything wrong. I get that we have to trust in Webster's vision to an extent, but TMM has definitely been hard done by.

Atta boy MV, that's the real you. Some good, hard analysis with your cynicism.

I agree, wholeheartedly. I honestly don't know why TMM fell out of favour from the guy who was laying on tries deluxe in 2024 and was at the heart of that mid-season run when we knocked over Penrith, the Phins, Cows etc. And I am certain if I look back at my posting from pre-season, I wanted TMM and Metcalf, with Metcalf playing 6. History tells us Webby got that one right and he certainly knows more about league than I do. I still think TMM/Metcalf could have worked, with CHT as 14.

I can only guess that the style that Boyd brings is closer to what Webby sees as the game plan than what TMM does.

Yeah and while I added a disclaimer that I didn't think there was a "plot" against TMM, I actually don't think it would be unfair to say that Webster has been ushering him out to an extent. I think it's apparent enough that he doesn't fit with what Webster wants.

I’ve probably got a harsher view of TMM.

He had two stints as starting 7 while SJ was out last year and while we all enjoyed the first 3 game stint from Magic Round, his second stint of 5 (?) games was very inconsistent, and IMO pretty poor at times.

Personally I’ve got no qualms about where he’s at in the pecking order. He periodically shows glimpses of class, even now as a utility, but IMO he was far too inconsistent last year to have any sense of incumbency after SJ retired.

And since then others who earned first crack have played well, stayed consistent and have done nothing wrong themselves.

I think TMM probably fits the supersub role than better than anyone else remaining and is being "penalised"? Still a vital cog in the machine. If Dylan Walker was still in the team, then it might have been a toss up between TMM and Boyd for the 7 spot and one would still be back in Reserve grade.
Prior to TMM being sent up to NRL, the Boyd/TMM combo was killing it and TMM was laying on assist after assist and looked the better of the 2 halves.
Boyd was left on his own to continue building on their winning streak with help from Hanson and co, and has profited from the teams success - combined with TMM required on the bench to cover multiple positions.

I would have liked to see TMM in the halves but I had a gut feeling Boyd was getting picked. There was even a random puff piece in the herald promoting him. Anyway I hope he goes well. The good bit is TMM is in the team so presumably gets on, Tuaupiki is there too so potentially 4 playmakers on at the same time so it's going to be different cos I have to say quite a few games lately have been turgid and kinda
boring

Yeah this 100%.

I'm happy with the team - they've obviously invested in Boyd to be the backup 7 and power to him, hopefully it works out. TMM has done a good job coming off the bench this year and suits the utility role well, keeping him going there is a smooth and clean transition away from Metcalf.
