And good to see Shaun Lane picked up a new sponsor car in recent weeks for his personal use, while taking "time away" from his on field role with the Eels to consider his future....

Good to see Shaun Lane keeping himself busy with this private coaching company, while taking "time away" from his on field role with the Eels to consider his future....

Hey Shaun, what do you suggest is the best way to act if you're ever dropped?

If matterson and lane aren't playing and not in the injured player list are we getting cap dispensation for these players? Surely if we are professional we have them removed from the books to allow us to use there cap space for forwards payments if players for next season

We are too soft as a club.

And people wonder why we haven't won anything in 40 years.

A ruthless club would have culled Lane before June 30.

He either wants to play or he doesn't.

Its a pretty simple question

That’s all good but we shouldn’t be obliged to think that we need to opt and pay for his services.

Maybe we can give Matto the strength and conditioning gig when he retires too.
He can be the head chef as well.

Thinks he is the new Jamie Oliver on instagram.

Make him earn his money

Lane is on the board of the RLPA - the equivalent of a union for NRL players. There's no way he doesn't know what he is doing in terms of the contract terms and conditions, making it unlikely the club can cut him/retire his salary at 30 June.

Don't forget Lane was blessed with a Mutual Option for 2026 too... whatever the conditions for triggering that might be. Ultimately I wish Lane well with future endeavours, but imo it's highly likely he'll milk his Eels career/contract terms for all that it's worth (whether or not he ever gets back on the field in Cup or NRL).

Matto has also always come across as an individualist ($4K fine vs suspension). While such personality isn't always aligned with membership of associations or unions, you can bet that he too will be aware of the ins and outs of his Eels contract terms and player option for 2026. Ultimately I wish Matto well also, while he continues his personal rehab (whether or net he ever gets back on the field in Cup or NRL).

I’d say, Lane was affected by those injuries that he sustained. Broken jaw in particular. It played on his mind. Perhaps he can learn from his own flaccid experience and tell people on how not to be a soft cock.
I agree the 2023 injuries clearly affected Lane and his desire to play to his potential in league. That documentary he filmed in the off-season was excruciating in terms of the verbal content and direction it flagged... it basically set up his involvement in this private mentoring initiative with his brother, using Eels coin to do so.

he's under contract, you do know what that means ?

if he plays Cup he blocks a pathway

I dare say he's not playing by mutual agreement

You have to offer them something to get them to agree to the termination.

He has a mutual option. If he takes it (which he will) he will cost less than the lottery present that BA gifted him. Let’s say it’s $500k. Would you pay him that much do be our welfare officer? It’s outrageous because he’s as inspiring as an accidental wet fart.

Give him multi year deal that equals the 500k..

No Matterson on the injury list and not named in cup either

Its become a piss take. With his instagram feed getting busier in the past few weeks.

Next time someone tells me MON is doing a great job.

Ill show them the Ryan Matterson 650k 4 year contract which included a PO as a reason MON should be shown the door.

Shaun Lane's 4 year contract will be on the 2nd page of failures he has dished up in his tenure.

When were they offered those contract extensions again?
