Alot of this goes to demographics. A lot of Sydney RL hotbeds Kogarah is the perfect example is now a high Chinese heritage.

Who generally aren't into RL. Brisbane gets most of their migration from the Southern States as opposed to overseas
Talk about fitting in and mixing with society NOT.
We have a Chinatown in Newcastle (England) and when I started out in Martial Arts and watching the Hong Kong Kung Fu Action movies I was very disppointed that none of the local Chinese community did Martial Arts apart from 1 club.

That seems like a statement without little factual data to support it, and certainly not the reason for Sydney's TV viewership to be so proportionally low.

Maybe NSW just doesn't get Origin

@The_Wookie how many Friday night AFL games make up the 11.36m aggregate ratings? I know they had a double header last week, was this included as one or two games in its average of 631k?

They don’t get Sport then given these are the most watched sporting events of the year to date by a large margin

And the big question - what did the union match get that was playing at the same time?

Both showpiece events going head to head would be good to get a comparison.

Once again someone outside Sydney thinking they know Sydney better than a lifelong resident

Origin was at its peak ratings wise around 2014.

In that time the amount of people born in India has doubled, China has a big increase too.

2nd table shows where the cities main population born overseas comes from.

Sydney is China
Brisbane is NZ.

What population is going to enjoy RL more?

A lot of what ? I mean ..it’s hard to really criticise the ratings in Sydney right, even if they are not as impressive as the Brisbane ratings ? No other sports annual event comes close to these ratings in Sydney …AFL, cricket soccer Union..forgetaboutit

I guess the argument others are posting is the notion that a larger % of Sydney should of watched the game.

It will still be the highest watched program in Sydney for the year.

Correlation doesn't equal causation.

FTA TV across the world has steeply declined since 2014, for obvious reasons, and it's nothing to do with immigration. Even if it did, are you seriously trying to claim that 3% of the population is the cause of this rating result??

Also laughable that you claim to be an expert on Brisbane with no irony.

If 2014 was the high water mark in Sydney ( I’m taking your word for this as I don’t know ) I would suggest that had more to do with interest in seeing NSW breaking their 9 yr drought rather than Chinese and Indians moving here ..

How are the cricket ratings going in Sydney with all those Indians moving here ? Backwards in a hurry right?

All fta ratings have been slumping

Origin has now started to get back some of those lost viewers

Old mate said it wasn’t possible since fta was a dieing medium

Not sure of the breakdown but 2013, 2014 have all the Origin viewing records.

It was pre streaming days to be fair. Stan and Netflix would of taken casuals away too

The last season India v Australia the highest watched programs ever on Fox. It is a shame Fox doesn't do the breakdown.

Fox have the IPL, India home tests and a Hindi coverage. So that would be the preferred platform
