I reckon some of those figures quoted for the USA are bullshit. But hey it’s on TikTok so it must be true. Who the f**k knows these days.

If however it’s true, the US is more f**ked than I thought when it comes to health care.

The cost of Epclusa (sofosbuvir and velpatasvir) tablets is roughly $US78,078 for a full 12-week course of treatment. Your cost might vary based on insurance or manufacturer-provided discounts. Epclusa is covered by most insurance plans.

Pharmaceutical company Gilead launched sofosbuvir on December 6, 2013, for the wholesale cost of US$1,000 (A$1,317) per 400mg tablet. The cost for the sofosbuvir component of a 12-week treatment course is US$84,000 (with the total cost of treatment dependent on the other medication or medications used in combination with sofosbuvir).

In 2014, sofosbuvir generated US$10.3 billion in sales. While the high cost of treatment has come under scrutiny, Gilead’s executives said “price is the wrong discussion … value should be the subject". Drug companies appear well aware such innovative treatments for hepatitis C will be well sought after regardless of cost.

With time and industry competition, drug costs have fallen marginally. Sofosbuvir combined with ledipasvir is US$94,500 (A$124,000) and the recently launched sofosbuvir combined with velpatasvir is US$64,700 (A$85,000) for a 12-week course.

In Australia, sofosbuvir is available through the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme for A$38.30 a month, or A$6.20 if you have a concession card.

These merkins are criminals.

It is still has no real utility beyond being an instrument of speculation. Blockchain tech doesn't require Bitcoin, and as a store of wealth or a hedge against inflation, gold is far more stable

Lots of folk have got plenty rich off it sure, but what does that prove beyond it being a profitable financial instrument, no less, no more?

I don't get this, if true it would be obvious to anyone given the interest behind it that someone would look for and find any manipulation of the file.

Meaning manipulation in order to release a "nothing to see here" video would always be found and only fuel further speculation of a cover-up.

It’s a store of value like gold. An asset. How many f**king times do I have to explain myself?

It now has a market cap higher than silver. How did that happen? Speculation?

Sure, like any asset Bitcoin can be a store of value, the problem there is as I said it's volatile, gold is far more stable, so a better store of value.

Well yeah, of course it's valued by speculation, how else did it happen?

Whilst there's enough merkins out there who believe the price will be higher in the future, the price will rise. And apparently there's more than enough. That's literally how financial instruments are valued.

To be honest I like the idea of a non-centralized currency, but right now it exemplifies human stupidity, it requires a mountain of resources to create, and has no real utility for anything that isn't already being served by something else that requires far less of those resources.

The only place where it actually has utility, is as a means for speculation, and at that it excels. More power to you mate if you've made some coin out of it, that's great. I just don't see how that changes shit though.

Is this the sort of thing that is why that fellow who allegedly committed murder upon a health industry CEO is a bit of a hero in the USA ?

The above is probably a leading question.

Yeah, that was about insurance companies denying coverage, but when you see shit like those prices it really brings home the point of how being denied coverage means you are just totally f**ked, so you can see why people, a lot of whom have been f**ked over by their insurance would have no sympathy for old mate the CEO of an insurance company that regularly denied coverage.

I think a lot of folk just looked at it and think there's no real justice served any other way, so f**k him.

Avenger bragging about the value of Bitcoin but based on the conversation with Bandy I’m not even sure he understands what it is or why it’s valued highly.
