2025 First coach sacked

For the Titans, with a vacant coach and a team most likely to win the spoon this year and potentially next also they really need to completely refresh the staff and not just the coach. I like that Hannay is the rumoured coach, he's been in the QLD set up for a few years now, they should sign Matt Ballin (Other QLD assistant) and have a great staff working below them, this could lead to actual good recruitment from the Titans and consistent top 8 finishes.

Personally despite running last I don't think the Titans are that awful, get some good halves and a much better coach and they could be competitive, no idea why they didn't chase Sexton.

Josh Hannay returns the Gold Coast Titans to the merry-go-round of an upcoming assistant coaches, following the tenure of Garth Brennan and Justin Holbrook. Holbrook was a Super League coach, but was still untried as an NRL head coach. It's probably not the Titans' fault, though, as there isn't a lot on the market. The fact that Kevin Walters is going hard for the Kangaroos' gig probably shows he's not in the frame of things.

Get some high up NSW official tell it to his big stupid nose that he's sacked effective immediately. Right there in the sheds post game.
Guy was one of the best and most passionate to ever don the sky blue jersey. Would be one of the first picked in an all-time best NSW squad. He deserves more dignity than that.

Which is why the NSWRL choosing to honour the contract and keep him on another series is just bad for everybody except the QRL and a few Qld boomers still traumatised from the thrashings the Qld team used to get in the Interstate series. It's bad for the NSW public, bad for Origin and bad for Laurie Daley's reputation.

Wish they'd call him into Philip St, give him lifetime membership of the NSWRL, pay out what's left of his contract and cut ties with as much dignity as possible.

That's true but during those years he had the shittiest NSW team ever available to him whilst I think the 08 or 09 team was truly peak QLD dominance team.
It’s still no excuse for the terrible performances that happened. I don’t care how good Queensland were at the time. Bellamy’s NSW teams played the worst origin games ever. Only Jarryd Hayne stopped a whitewash in back to back years. Ricky Stuart had the same team but came so agonisingly close.

meh, I'll believe it when he has the full support of the board.

This is the non-paywalled report from Fox Sports -

If Fox is correct, then the current favoured re[placement for AOB is Blake Green. Green is one of the Assistant Coaches and he's resposible for the Knights.... attack  If that is what the powers that be are looking at, I wonder if its "frying pan to fire" for the Knights players and fans in 2026.

The GC is a graveyard for sporting teams. It's just not a place that has the support for them. We're better off moving them rather than expanding another team tbh, but the NRL won't
I assume the other teams that have less support than the Titans are getting kicked out too? Going to be some holes in the schedule next year with no Sharks, Dragons, Tigers and Titans.

Let's not also forget the Titans are pretty high drawing games for the Broncos and Dolphins, we'll just can those derbies too, why do we need those sort of crowds in the game?

For NSW, I'd like to see active NRL coaches available to coach Origin teams, I feel like we'd do a whole lot better with Bellamy, Cleary or literally anyone except Laurie Daley.
Titans are allergic to good halves, just ask Fogarty & Sexton

Kangaroos - Kevvie
Titans - Hannay
Knights - Arthur
NSW...

It will be Daley next year by the looks of it but your best options are still:

Gould
Fittler
McGuire
Stuart

Gould won't go back and for Madge or Sticky to get the job the NRL would have to allow club coaches to coach in Origin. Either way, Gus needs to be in the setup, even as an advisor. Joey needs to be in camp full-time to inspire the team like we have Thurston, Langer, Slater and sometimes Cam Smith.

But anyway, I'm all good if you keep Laurie around for a while. He's a blues legend, you owe him 😉

For Queensland, Cam Smith 100% needs to take over when Billy is done.

The clubs absolutely cooked if they appoint Blake Green…so 100% they’ll do it. I would have preferred to keep AOB over Green to be honest. Why they’d think the attack coach deserves a promotion is beyond me (but that’s the Knights for you).

Gus - could do it but probably prefers to rest on his laurels unfortunately
Freddy- only if it's with somebody more tactically astute doing the gameplan AND team selections for him. Freddy can organise the fire-walking/ meditation circles/ barefoot training and all that motivational stuff.
Sticky- absolutely would take him in a heartbeat
Madge- would also take back in a heartbeat, provided his NRL team isn't heavy with Maroons players

If Cam Smith takes over as Maroons coach I pity whoever the ref is...
