Phins have banners all over the Brisbane CBD. Honestly I see more phins stuff than Broncos stuff being advertised.
The banners do shit all these days, if we're honest. Those banners are also directing folk to a Ticketek site with only the most expensive seats available 90% of the time, which just undos any of the good.

The marketing world is digital and we need access in our hands - the Broncos are the best at this, and hammer Adsense with their ticketing, membership, and marketing materials/links. I genuinely believe that we have some of the best marketing heads in Australian sport, and the Phins have some of the worst - they are a new club, so this isn't meant to be as brutal as it sounds, they will get there eventually.

In any case, their ticketing division sits within the marketing division and they are diabolical, which says it all really.

I think it's better they are there. Every street in the city you go down is either a Dolphin street or a Bronco street in terms of banners. Gives the correct impression when people are in the city. Put it this way, I'd have to vomit if the city was covered in Lions banners.

I believe the issue sits higher up and at the CEO level for the Phins. The Broncos, especially when I worked with them, use to invest a lot less into ticketing and general marketing back when Terry Reader was their GM of Commercial & Marketing.

In my experience, Terry is incredible at selling sponsorships & corporate hospitality, however (at least use to) views marketing as a cost centre. Potentially it is because his background was always sales before the Broncos restructured and consolidated in 2009/2010, but for me, it's not surprising that the Dolphins are able to lure some massive corporate partnerships, yet have an underwhelming approach to marketing.

I'm a Phins member and I'm seeing things differently. Agreed that they don't do promotion like the Broncos, but their game day experience is good, their presence around Brisbane, especially the city is good and their digital marketing seems to be great.

@yakstorm 's info was super interesting and really made sense with how I was feeling towards what the Phins have been doing.

I do think that 'The Rise of the Dolphins' program has been good for them.

Where I feel that they are dropping the ball is with their interactive content opportunities and particularly with their sponsors. For example, they've had one post this week with a Foot Locker voucher and give away. Foot Locker is a brilliant target given their youth customer base, but they didn't go in tandem posts with Foot Locker, or collaborate properly, it was just a post that drew 37 likes.

Broncos on the other hand have posted in collaboration with all of their major sponsors this week, which magnifies the audience and increases your presence in the algorithm. That's the kind of digital marketing that the Phins need to get out there.

For example, if they fixed up their ticketing shenanigans, and went ham with some appropriately tailored posts across social media, they probably could have sold 2-4k more tickets tonight.

Their post for tonight's game doesn't include the link to the tickets in the main subject, you have to find that in the comments. The post text is actually smart, and if they hit it with a targeted/sponsored campaign based on location and key phrases, it would have brought this post up for British & Irish Lions fans that have arrived in Brisbane and have nothing to do tonight. Shit like this is so small, but it's poor marketing execution.

Very interesting marketing insights guys. Good to understand what certain clubs are doing well and how.

Saturday's Storm v Sea Eagles game is trending towards 17K-18K with pre-sales very similar to the Panthers (17,586) and Wests Tigers (17,376) games.

Meanwhile Sunday's Knights v Warriors game is showing encouraging pre-sales, with very little reserved seating in the lower bowl and some big chunks of the upper grandstand gone. The match is 'Voice for Mining Family Day' which historically has averaged over 20K, and saw over 24K against the Titans last year.

Spoke with Terry at the HBF game and it was interesting listening to him about how they wanted a differentiator from the Broncos and decided to be far more youthful in their approach and not take themselves too seriously in the branding and marketing. Maybe people on here just too old to see much of where Phins are spending their marketing $'?

Also its great they have banners up in the city. It always amazes me the number of places I travel to in Australia with an NRL club were you would have no idea at all they existed. NRL should take out advertising in every airport where there is a club imo! Landing at Sydney to a GWS marketing display was somewhat staggering.

Garbage statement from you, PR, but I should not be surprised.

If you took the time to read the previous pages you would realise that their current marketing strategies are NOT targeting the youth well, and that is precisely what we are suggesting that they should be doing.

Make no mistake, half the year you have been screaming about the Phins ticketing strategy in Perth and it being far too expensive. Who does that disadvantage the most? The youth!

Furthermore, junior tickets for the Broncos gets you admission up until 16 years old. Junior tickets for the Phins games gets you in until 15 years old.

PS - I'm pretty sure I'd be half your age but I digress.

Great for a Thursday. Excluding Broncos/Dogs on Anzac Day Eve, virtually matches the 23,226 from Chooks/Broncos in round 1 for best Thursday YTD.
