Is the PNG club even gonna happen?

I mean I know this forum would give Vlandys a hand shandy on-sight.

But expecting the NRL to suddenly grasp and manage the complexities of local politics and corruption feels like a bit of a leap. And frankly not something we should expect of them.

this issue and the corruption issue as a whole won’t be in the Top 5 problem they face there … plenty of other Australian companies manage to navigate the corporate environment over there … perhaps with less media attention though
Once again League beats them to their own game. Our main man in PNG is already bought and owned by the Chinese.
Soon to be ex man I would suggest … next !

Mate, Australian companies (included those listed in the article) bribing people or soliciting bribes is there issue, and the cash of investors or big fat cats.

Australian taxpayers money being openly used for corruption would be a huge issue

Old mate is the Chairman of the PNG teams board, and the head of the biggest company in PNG.

I liked the bit from the Australian partner pretending he knew nothing about it. Vlandys could learn from him for what's coming lol

lol, the absolute most that will happen is that the nrl boot a director. That’s it. This is not some huge smoking gun that will kill the license FFS. The NRL is responsible for spending the money, not png, for this very reason, they didn’t just stumble into this deal blindfolded, the government know full well the corruption issues that plague PNG.

How do you think the NRL is going to decide where to spend money without involvement from locals?

The ARLC has been thrust into the middle of a political and local situation that they are completely ill-prepared to deal with,.

I

But do you think the actions of the Chairman shown in this article, are those of a "fit and proper" person to run the team?

no … but he will be replaced and they will move on …

I’m much more concerned about them acquiring good players and having a competitive football team … this is where they will really struggle

The gov funding is capped at $290m, $29m a year, it’s a pittance. It will all be scrutinised by DFAT. You seem to think up till now corruption has been a secret in PNG, hate to break it to you but billions of Australian taxpayer money has been spent in PNG over the decades. No one is under any illusions.

Hopefully this kills this stupid idea.

We all know it wont though, and the ARLC will be left carrying the can for a club thats will be broke as f**k in 10 years time.

NZ2 and Adelaide are still better options even without the Government money, especially when we know that this money won't go to where it should anyway.
You're looking at this the wrong way and not seeing the bigger picture. Kill PNG now then there's a good chance the comp doesn't expand past Perth. Give PNG a chance and get to 19, club 20 will materialise sooner rather than later as everyone hates byes and will give another game to flog to the market the TV rights after next. If PNG fails, give it to NZ2 or Brisbane who didn't make the original 20. Killing PNG now is a moronic idea.

Sad for the people of PNG if corruption robs them of their team, but for the NRL, well just move forward with Ipswich and Christchurch to form a 20 team league.
