All season and last season, if any player plays the ball without being upright and in control, the defending team gains possession. It happened to Kyle against Canberra and every weekend for the last 2 seasons at least. Suddenly, this weekend it isn't the players responsibility to play the ball with control. Kiraz was almost horizontal when he went to play the ball. Sloan did not play at that ball. He jammed Kikau who momentarily lost control of the ball, it hit Sloan. Knock on every day....until it isn't

You seem to conveniently forget that hands on the player getting up to play the ball is a penalty.

There is no front on footage of the Kikau / Sloan incident to support your argument.

Sloan didn’t blow up immediately nor did anyone else when it happened.

Kikau does that sweeping motion pass and it could very well have left his hands as Sloan came into jam him.

Despite both of these events we were still in front with minutes to play and we took a poor option and f**ked up our alignment to defend the last play.

We did against the Digs and we did against plenty of other teams and whilst we mightn’t like it we choke in critical moments.

So the poor old Flanno has shit to work with scenario and is doing a good job doesn’t wash with me rather we constantly get into winning positions and f**k it up due to dumb tactics and piss poor execution.

Agree OT that it might have been a bit of laziness on Leilua's part but did it really cause Kiraz to lose his balance or stop him from getting to his feet to play the ball. How many times have you seen Kiraz or any other player carry 2 or 3 tacklers and they still can't get them to the ground yet a player basically resting their arm on their back suddenly is too much force and they can't get up. Maybe it's the 1 red and 1 white eye that I am seeing this incident but do you honestly think if it was the other way around the bunker would have overturned the onfield decision of lost ball?

If this means anything, look at Kiraz reaction after the drop ball, he was dirty with himself for dropping the ball, he didn't get up complaining of any interference. To him it's a regular tackle. There is so many times markers have hands on the ball player and ball player pushing them off, if he doesn't drop the ball it's play on.

Do players, and especially our ones, do stupid and lazy things, yes. Did Kiraz take the risk and it paid off for him, yes it did. But we all know if it was the other way around there is no way the bunker would have changed the onfield decision. Does it mean we would have gone on to win the game? Potentially yes as we were handling what the Dogs were throwing at us ok at that stage.

It hurts watching that vision of Sloan coming in with basically 2 minutes on the clock...our wingers have been doing this for years but as much as it is frustrating he did in effect score two tries, it's not his fault that the bunker had it in for us all match, again when Crichton knocked it on into Sloan, again when Kiraz didn't get to his feet....almost as blatantly awful as his 'forward pass try v Raiders.

It's been a horrible year for us and for Sloan but I have to give him a pass mark for that game.

Gutherson should have come in as the extra man, which would have allowed Sloan to mark his winger. At fullback, Gutherson should be ready to make the extra man in defense.

Isn't this the orthodox play in this situation?

Coming in off your wing means you are either playing for an intercept (unlikely) hoping the pass fails to find it's mark (unlikely with the quality of halves these days) or expecting your centre or fullback to fold around you to bundle the winger into touch (also highly unlikely) so therefore if the winger even baulks to come in to put some doubt in the halves mind but ensures he stays in touch with his opposite number which allows him the opportunity to at least push him into touch, centre stays on centre then fullback covers the gap.

Surely this is a better option than the winger racing in while the ball sails over his head to an unmarked winger to score untouched...

So no, I haven't conveniently forgotten that hands on a player will be a penalty. It has been messaged down to all clubs that not getting up with control to play the ball will incur a penalty regardless of hands on the player. The NRL contradicted it's own edict on Saturday night. But of course it helped the Doggies.

As for Sloan not complaining, gutho and a few others yelled out to the ref and touchy........crickets. yes, the 6 again didn't give any one any real chance to argue the toss as we were under siege to hold onto our 2 point lead. Adam Gee made sure we didn't see any ball for the last 5 minutes. They didn't even stop the clock after their try as is the norm in the last minutes of games. Has anyone from the NRL explained that one? Has Ben fxcking Haran asked the NRL about it?

The Kikau incident was the pass in to Sloan, your comment here seems to be referring to the Kiraz/Leilua play the ball incident but you've referred to Kikau?

So you've now confused this incident firstly with Salmon and now with Kikau.

You also couldn't provide enough detail to another poster previously when they asked about the Kikau pass and gave some vague answer.

I highly doubt you even watched the game, cut the act.

Kyle did exactly the same thing in Canberra. He tried to milk the hands on him and play the ball quickly as he was falling, lost control when milking it and the ref penalised Kyle.

It all comes down to what the Ref is look at or looking for. During a game, so many times players are pinged for things that other players were not pinged for.

Sloan and Kyle should have been dropped to Nsw Cup earlier in the season . Season over with 2 players that has cost the team many games this season.
