Objection your honour, speculation...
Overruled.

I tend to agree with the premise of Pou's post.

Many of us thought BA was a limited coach, but management didn't as they clearly backed him in for a long time.

The issue for management in 2024 clearly seems to have been that they finally realised we need a clean out and rebuild and they knew that could never happen whilst BA was there as they more than likely knew that he wouldn't fairly appraise the likes of Gutho, RCG, Brown, Carty, MA, even Sivo...

The issue i have with management is the lack of Footy IQ & smarts in the business.

The day we sacked BA - Sarantinos & the previous chairman McElduff are telling the world we have a competitive/great roster that can compete for finals/premierships.

Most footy fans on here had figured out the window was shut and it was quite obvious with the decline 18 months post a GF into sacking Arthur.

Jason Ryles comes in from the get go and basically dismantles a roster that needed dismantling through some dumb recruitment decisions and stupid long term contracts that were handed out to players with questionable history when it comes to performance and or character.

And you wonder why most people have no faith the club can turn it around when a lot of these people are still in charge of the roles.

BA should have jumped at the end of 23 we could all see th writing on the wall.. Would probably see him as an NRL coach again already.

The whole process behind that just shows a lack of ruthlessness the club lacks to make the tough call.

Brisbane showed last year your allowed to sack a coach 12 months after a GF loss when missing the finals if you don't believe you can win a comp under the current coach.

Despite some calling for them to give Walters 10 rounds this year.

Brisbane just decided that kicking the can down the road would toss away another year.

What was our excuse oh that's right we made the GF in 22.

Poor Brad needed another chance.

I maintain beating Penrith in the last round was the worst thing to happen because it gave the club a false sense they were still close enough to win a comp. If Penrith put 40 on us it may have swayed a more decisive call.

A lack of discipline with 23 weeks of suspensions just cost us remember.

The delay in the move and yep the unfortunate options, has given us salary cap room but a bare cupboard to recruit. An interesting time ahead as it seems that they are aware we need some strengthening but the timing is crap. See if any releases are at the level we need, not reserve graders or projects but the close to rep level .

Moses not playing much both seasons is a big factor. I didn't want to see people like RCG, Gutho etc. leave but they had their chance while they were at their peak. I'm not convinced they'd have us doing any better this year.

You can use injuries as an excuse, but something needed to change IMO.

I was the biggest early critic of the Ryles appointment but he appears to be making all the right moves to rebuild the club and define a style of football that we wants to see.

He'll be our coach in 2027,
I think he will be also, as I think we will make a couple more signings and be more competitive next year.

Its a statement or representation designed to exaggerate or enhance the quality of a product - not intended to be relied upon.

Staple of advertising - when used by football management, its straight up bullshit.
Well that’s a disappointingly, narrow minded legal opinion. I won’t be paying that tax invoice.

I would have thought that you would have discussed the aspirational language and how it builds morale among players and fans. The purpose being optics; it flags ambition and leadership, plus it frames the clubs goals.

So puffery can also be used in that space, not meant to be factual guarantees, but rather motivational or promotional hot air.

As others have said, we’re hardly going to hold a presser at that point in time and declare we’re screwed.

Walters underperformed the Broncos long term average. That's why he was sacked. After four seasons they had a big enough sample to know he was a dud. With all their recruitment/retention advantages, Broncos coaches should be averaging about 60% win rate ffs. They are a massive club.

It's got nothing to do with excuses, Brad Arthur outperformed every Eels coach since Smith, with a massive sample to prove it was no fluke.

I'm not so sure about your theoretical salary cap room. We have 29 players on the books for next year and have signed/re-signed plenty of players. JAC's club option won't be for penauts or he would never have agreed to it. JDB is also on a CO, not a cheap way to sign players. Plus a couple of top 17 players re-signed. Smith and Kautoga came in from outside the top 30, and I doubt they're on less than $800k between them. Kautoga alone is worth half a million, which would be on the cheap side for a bloke expected to play 80 minutes in the NRL every week. Finally, I'd say any spare cap space for 2026 was offered to Galvin and then TDS.

$500k for Kautoga? FMD, he’s a fringe first grader. He’d genuinely be one of the worst edge forwards in the comp at the moment.

Statistically he is around the middle, and given his age and lack of experience, he should be expected to keep improving. Only four edge forwards have made more line breaks than him this year (Nikora, Young, Lucas, Olakau'atu). He is very exciting.
