A 18 team 2-conference system would be good.

Qld/Other
Brisbane City Fins
Brisbane Broncos
Gold Coast Titans
Melbourne Storm
Western Bears
NQ Cowboys
Auckland Warriors
Canterbury Caterpillars
Canberra Raiders

Top 2 play final at Suncorp for the conference championship. Top 3 go through to finals.

NSW
Canterbury Bulldogs
Parra Eels
Penrith Panthers
Wests Tigers
Rooters
Sea Eagles
Sharks
Dragons
Newcastle Knights

Top 2 play final at Stadium A for the conference championship. Top 3 go through to finals.

Top 6 finals - winner of each conference final straight into top 4 the others play each other to 4 play off to get into the top 4.

A 6pm trime slot for Thursday games? That's stupid as anything. Whilst, in my opinion, 7.50 pm is too late, 6 pm is way too early, especially if you have to travel any distance on game day to get to the game if you work.

Waiting to hear from V’Landys on allowing pommies and kiwis in Origin and Sydney clubs having the benefit of no travel

Or perhaps it’s just bush week at NRL house, and we ignore this bullshit noise.
We went through this debate before

2 pools of 10 teams - or 28 rounds no byes

Home & Away within your pool every year
Home & Away over 2 years cross pools

Cowboys, Perth, Auckland, Storm, Canberra, Newcastle will ALL travel for every away game - 14 games

Doesnt matter which model you propose

Broncos, Dolphins, Gold Coast and lets say Ipswich will play each other twice no matter what conference structure you want. And the rest are travel games. 11 travel games

Again doesnt change which ever pool system you use

The Sydney pool will result in 5 away travel games for these teams. Clubs today increase this to 7 when they take a game to regional location and Maguc round

This is basis of todays NRL draw already if you look at it in detail. Just with 4 byes. Get rid of the 4 byes Vegas and 3 origin it fits

Just make Ch9 broadcast its Saturday night fixture rather than selling it back to Fox

So who are in each 10 pool

Sydney - Easts, Manly, Souths, Cronulla, Dragons, Wests-Tigers, Dogs, Penrith, Parramatta, Newcastle

Regional - Broncos, Dolphins, Gold Coast, Ipswich, Cowboys, PNG, Storm, Canberra, Perth, Warriors

Finals must remain based on combined points table - not the stupid NFL system

The inescapable reality is that if there's a conference setup where one group has significantly less travel and also comprises most of the oldest clubs/oldest rivalries then you will see more quality players opt to play for teams in that conference.

A higher concentration of quality players will make for better games and will draw more fans and sponsors to those teams, and the NRL will quickly end up with a two-step league.

Sydney Boomers and GenX-ers need to accept that the NRL isn't the NSWRFL and that they can't keep looking back to a suburban comp in the 1980's when planning a multinational comp for the 2030's and 2040's.

Travel doesn’t change much from now to conferences

If it’s a Sydney conference it’s Sydney v Sydney they gain no advantage against each other

Then if you get top five from each conference

Ideally I would have two top five finals Systems of each conference with the winners playing off the ultimate winners in the gf

It maximises crowds and ratings

Plus top five system is the fairest system for the team who come first
