Match discussion: 2025 R24 v Manly, Sun @ Allianz

It’s been a flatter and more competitive season than the game is used to.

So imperative we make some of kind noise when all is said and done.

The key indicators, I don’t think we are anywhere near the powerhouse sides.

Still hoping we can jag some gun coaching assistants for ‘26+

Benji can’t be removed, so it’s a matter of informing and influencing him.

If Todd Payten gets sacked Id think he'll be a prime candidate. Only thing is he would be replacing one of his good mates in Hodgo or JMoz, not sure Benji would be keen on that.

If we are going to carry Hunt on the bench for an ineffective 10min then sit him out for the rest of the game, rugged up in a long oil skin then we really have coaching issues.
Instead, Benji needs to be to horse whisperer and start both May and Hunt and really rip into these silvertales pack.
Once he's buggered, Pole can replace him. Late in the second half, surrounded by emty ventolin puffers and jelly snakes wrappers, Hunt might just have enough energy to go out again and save his career.

Having just watched a reply of the doggie's 32-12 loss to the roosters on my 34" hospital tv, it appears that Galvin is going to get a big reality check soon.
Every time the dogs lose LG will bare the brunt of it from the media and supporters.

If we beat Manly with AD at ½, I actually think it will put us back before we move fwd. It will stay that way until our finals hopes are dead and buried.
I rate AD and I've said it for a long time that he could revolutionise the lock position. He could be one on the best ball playing, free running lock fwds in the comp.
I cannot see AD as our long term future ½ and delaying the Latu/Luai combo will push our cohesion further and further back into the 2026 season.
Benji said Latu is our future. Why have we spent a huge amount
of our cap on all these halves then........ Fainu, Sullivan, Madden and have then join a growing list of pathway boys chewing on the bit to get a game, players like Heath Mason, Aiden Ackland, and Kurt Falls, Mickey and Marc Tannous, Maxy Liles.
At some stage you can throw in recently signed young gun Javon Andrews and Haywood too. We have more ½ /⅝ to sink a battle ship.
At what stage are we going to settle or our long term spine. What's the plan Benji?

Tm asked us earlier who would we would like to have in our side if there was a way of signing them, and I said Naufahu Whyte. He and May would be the best bookend duo in the Nrl.
He was dynamic against the dogs.

Mostly agree, but you can't move Doueihi out of the halves atm, he is playing too well imo, and certainly not while we have the slimmest of chances to make the 8.
Latu will be our 7 next year, but I don't believe we would have won last game with him playing there.
It's a good problem to have for a change.

My concern is the same as yours. I just can't see AD cutting it at 7 longer term even though he has been great this season.

I want to see Latu playing a key role for us. My only issue is that I think Latu is a running 6 and they are playing Luai that way now. I think Luai should be the dominant half and perform up to his pay packet.

I'd love to see another middle forward come into the rotation who can have an impact.

Benji talks well in this one and he discusses AD and Latu. AD does some good things at 7. Benji also mentions his talk. You could see that leadership. He also says Latu is our long term 7.

I've been said this several times Tm, you must have missed it.
If we lose against Manly we then need to play our long term halves for the remainder of the year and trials. Then Bingo, we won't have a slow strart to the season. Any other way, well..... we may miss out again.
If we can't make the finals and Benji persists in playing AD at ½ then I'll be wondering if Benji can coach.
If Benji resigned AD on the basis of him being that Yeo ball playing lock role, then he also needs time to develop in that position. 3 games is not ideal but it's a start.
If people think AD should play ½ long term then that means we have wasted good money on Latu. Also, go back and look at AD's previous games playing at ½ and at fullback. He had some Barry Crockers. He gave terrible service and could not stand and deliver.
Don't base you opinion on an unbelievable 10/10 performance in quagmire recently. He actually didn't play a classic half back's role.
He doesn't have a ½'s mindset or attributes to that of Cronk, Thurston, Langer, Kimmorley, or Clearey.
He has showed signs to that of a ball playing lock.
I posted this on another forum ages ago but it still has relevance.

I'm not disagreeing with you, but atm, Doueihi is our best bet at 7 for this game, if he can continue in his current form.
As you are well aware, it's professional sport and you have to play your best players at all times.
Latu is still learning FG, Benji has said repeatedly he will be to long term half and I would agree playing him now, if we were in a weaker position.
His time will come, just not at the moment.

We're saying the same thing sort of.
Let me ask you this....if we lose against Manly then what do you want to achieve?
Finish the year by playing AD at ½ because he's playing better footy?
This probably wont effect the ladder that much, win, lose or draw. Then what?
Do you plan playing AD in the halves next year and waste Latu's 3rd year of a four year deal?
What's your goal for 2026? Another rebuild year waiting for players like Latu for make their mark.
If we do that we'll most likely lose him to Perth or PNG and other players will hiss off. if we haven't made the finals next year..
2026 is a very important year for us

Chill sister.. Let’s just see what AD can do .Benji has shown the courage to adjust and look outside the square, and it’s worked with an unexpected win over a top 4 team..thats a quality you only see in the good coaches..All the what ifs and why nots don’t matter for now.. Save it until the W’s changes to L’s
