My impression is that as these kids are pretty good on the field they don't seem too difficult when it comes to contract negotiations and they want to be here.

I'll give Benji credit here in that he appears to get behind the players and they are getting behind them. I watched some of May's podcast yesterday and Api said he had taken less money. I believe him but I think that is fair as well. Same as AD.

It's a massive change to guys like Stef and Galvin. I should add I don't blame Benji for the way these guys acted either.

So I don't know if the article was made up or not but a bunch of players sound like they want to be here.
Benji’s big strength is hes so naturally likeable especially by the Polynesian kids who would have a strong affinity with him & would see him as a respectable father figure

Well said, my sentiments exactly.
I also think Benji's style is similar to Ciraldo's. He's able to act in certain way, firmo or encouraging etc but when it time to put his arm around them and say RUOK mate, the player might connect more with him than what other coaches could do.
I sorta picked up on this in a previous vid when Benji was walking aroung the COE and he asked Bula what was the bible msg of the day and you could see both engagecd nicely.
Sometimes you have to be careful what you you wish for, I'm wondering if Galvin is having second thoughts.

Benji stood by his comments that his family comes first and I think that is a good club culture to have.
It's infectious and players get their priorities right and become better people on and off the field.

What ever it costs, he needs to be signed.

Not whatever it costs. That'll screw us. We should be able to sign him on a fair contract.

My impression is that there are players who will stay with us without us paying overs and I think those are the players we need to keep on our books.

We don't want to screw over players but we don't want players who are always after the best possible dollars they can get.

The way I see it Tiger, is the cap can be pushed and pulled to accommodate the best players.
We have to keep our top 30 under the cap.
If that means losing players like Naden, Bird to name a couple and promote development players on min wage so we can then tie up our best players then so be it.
As a minimum, you would think you could build a side around.....
Bula
Turuva
Big May
Tiny May
Luai
Fainu bros
Api
So what is overs? Well every year the cap increases, so even taking that into account, if you cant keep the best players because we had to spend more on one player, then that's overs.

For me, it comes down to what price is getting into the top 8 and better worth?
I'm not saying all in on one player, but pay him extras, because I think he is going to show why he's an elite player.

So what is overs?

I don't know but we have a history of overpaying players and screwing our cap. We can't do that anymore. I also don't see why we have too. The guy has been AWOL due to off field problems and has played a couple of games for us.

I'm sure we can pay him a fair price and he'll stay just like his brother. I think they like it here. They will also get paid well.

AD stayed for less and I think that was fair.

My point is really more to do with cap management. I care more about retaining our good players rather than saying "bloody hell, we paid him way too much"
If Richo can get the top 30 players at or under the cap then it doesn't really matter.
Where it can be a problem is if we can get as good a player or better cheaper.
In May Jnr's case, I don't think there is is a better player available.
It can also be a problem if we have injuries.
You and I really have no idea what goes on behind closed doors re negotiations but I think Richo is doing ok.
He paid way overs for Luai but Luai is an ambassador for the club, someone who attracts players like the May bros

I think we'll sign him and I think our signings have been pretty good. Luai is overpaid a bit but I think he has a massive upside. I don't expect him to play significantly better but he still has years of quality footy in him.

I think Richo is doing pretty good actually.

I also don't think we have to pay ridiculous amounts to keep Taylan.

Stats can be misleading.

His numbers look good, but that's due to the number of minutes he plays.
As an example, he averaged ~20 minutes a match longer on the field than AFB.
And yet AFB averages only 4 metres per week less, and made ~400 more post-contact metres.

Defensively, he's often third man in, not the one belting guys.
As the big dog in the team, that's what he should be - trampling and belting dudes.
I don't see it.

Not wishing to troll, but I think you need to find someone else with some size up front and get Terrell playing shorter spells so he can push hard.
To me, he seems to be playing within himself so he can get the 70+ minutes.

To be honest, I think Pole does a better job.

Anyways, I was initially popping in here to congratulate you guys on an improved season.
It's good to see you finally climbing off the bottom of the ladder.
There's signs of good things ahead.
Get another big bopper up front and I think next year will see even more improvement.

I totally agree with you in regard to May. He plays far too many minutes for us as it stands. His impact has certainly diminished post origin.

He doesn't. Pole does better in some ways but he makes big mistakes regularly.

I think we need one more impact middle or Royce to start to play better. I'm extremely optimistic though.
