Season 2026

Another year of disappointment, close calls, bad injuries and games that we should have won. Season 2026 brings hope, excitement, fear and trepidation in equal measure. Surely things can't get worse. Or can they? Unless we recruit some quality, class players quickly, we could be in for another long year.

Yes the squad was weaker in 2025 and will be even worse in 2026 with the loss of Debelin and unless Dragons can secure an elite half back and some better centres, fullback and wingers then the spoon is the next stop.

If we can't land a good prop then I'd strongly consider moving Su'a into the middle. He's got the size, power & jinky running style with a bit of footwork which would suit the middle, while also being able to hit hard in defence.

It'd allow us to play a direct hole runner at 2rf like an egan and/or nick t & tbh they've got a bit more mobility than Su'a. Imo that would be better than picking a guler/lawrie/klemmer slow type in the middle. We need to get a bit more athleticism into this team in all areas.

I think having genuine hole runners at 2rf would suit 2 genuine ball players & running threats in LKT/Atko next year.

Starting Pack
Couchman/Sua
Egan/Stewart/Nick T

Bench: Liddle/LPT/Kerr/Sele

forgot about ryan couchman, he could start at 2rf then have nick t off the bench with lpt or sele dropping off.

Sele and Loko ahead of Nick T. Although Nick T's versatility is an asset off the bench i think if an outside back gets injured mid-game Dylan Egan can easily play centre as he's done in reserve grade at times and we can carry a better player on the bench. Nick T is still young and we are way too stacked in backrowers and to a lesser extent centres.

We will also sign a prop who is hopefully going to be a starter which means a few good players will miss out on the bench. Good for depth

Nick T and Buchanan are solid but offer little in attack.

Other teams will improve for sure.
The Dragons we expect better but get the same shit dealt out.
Our injuries in the forwards and Val and Suli all played early in those close losses.

I expect us to be around the bottom again.
Until they show us the mentality has changed and the style of play changes the same shit will be served up.

The same BORING football.
We as a team are so dumb when it comes to playing smart footy.

Flano said we'd improve this year and we gave up without a wimper.

Atkinson and Kerr aren't going to make a shadow of a difference.

There is not 1 game breaker in our team.

Nick T is known for his explosive running & tackle breaking ability. He's scored 10 tries in nsw cup. He's known more for his attack than anything else.

That's true, we've got good quality depth in the fwd pack now, especially if we remain relatively injury free. You're spot on re Nick versatility.

2026 is the year Saints blooded a heap of juniors and they got a taste of NRL. The same can be said for the Roosters but they managed to make the 8. What is good about that is Daniel Anderson was at the Chooks previously so hopefully he can have the same effect on the Dragons and that is spot the really good juniors to bring into FG or any other talented juniors from other areas as the previous people there were clueless. I am hoping this offseason we see a lot more changes to the roster and a lot of the deadwood move on.

A new assistant coach should also make a difference, so they need to really bank on a guy that is up to speed with how the game is now and not how it was. One that will not just sit back and let Flanno insist on his old way. Ennis may be the guy that can talk Flanno into making some calls he would not usually make to improve the side. Or a guy in England looking to get into the NRL with the potential of taking over like Adriam Lam. He can bring his son with him. He seems to be going ok in England. Seems like Saints like father and son combos. At least get one that has some success winning a comp in England.

For his only nrl game which was against the sharks up against Ramien, Nick ran for 161m with 2 tackle breaks & 20 tackles. Pretty good attacking stats for a debut. The difference is he arguably performed better at NRL level.
To add to that...

He played at centre, a position which he never played for the club until this season solely because our depth was so shit they had to chuck him there from 2nd row. And even then, he excelled.

Who have the Dragons re-signed for next season?

The Red V have thrown their faith into their emerging talent, with Loko Pasifiki Tonga, Ryan Couchman, Toby Couchman, Dylan Egan and Jacob Halangahu secured long-term.

Lyhkan King-Togia, Kyle Flanagan and Jacob Liddle established themselves as key players in the spine in 2025 and were rewarded with new contracts.

Meanwhile, Christian Tuipulotu was one of a few backline players to land another deal as Nathan Lawson and Nick Tsougranis were also extended.

As much as I want SGI to be successful, a part of me feels that Glover and particularly Ramsey have been shabbily treated. I"m sure Wayne will use Glover well at Souths but In the case of Ramsey, I would like nothing more than an NRL club to pick him up and him to go on and terrorise us. That would serve us right.

8. Marquee Prop or Klemmer if we can't sign one
9. Liddle
10. T Couchman
11. Truck
12. Su'A
13. Stewart

14. Flannagan/Nick T
15. Kerr
16. LPT
17. Eagan

Looks like a reasonable forward pack to me. All of the above young forwards have had a good taste of first-grade football. Kerr and a potential marquee prop will have good experience and a hard underbelly. There will be a lot of energy in this pack. Line speed in defense should be there.

Well, after reading this excuse me if I give season 2026 a miss... And maybe longer - like until Flanno and this nothing grub are gone.
Clearly we have attained the lowest reaches of barrell-scraping, jobs-for-the-boys, nepo BS.
Why don't we hire Andrew Voss as a water boy while we're at it?!
We'll be a Sharks feeder club, existing in KoE only within 5 years.
It's fkn sad.
