From 9PR - NRL Live Finals Series Raiders v Broncos was the No.1 rating NRL game of the 2025 season so far. It dominated its timeslot with Total People and all key demos across Australia and in Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne. It recorded a National Total TV Reach of 2.037 million, a Total TV National Audience of 1.054 million (up 28% year-on-year) and a BVOD Audience of 207,000 (up 93.5% year-on-year).
Channel 9 would be extremely happy with the leadin work the NRL did with the News and the Block. Completely won them the night.

Bodes well for future finals ratings too. The finish and result have been shared pretty widely on social media. Could lead to some level of FOMO. Just in comparison to last years final series - i remember everyone was pretty sure who was making the Grand Final from Week 1 and the final series was a bit dour.

Google Trends shows we beat their week 2 finals with our week 1 finals in Australia.

Even more pronounced in Worldwide interest

Which continues the rise of NRL search interest Worldwide (on track currently to beat them this year. If trends continue, 2024 may be the last time the AFL will beat NRL in worldwide online search interest).

Said multiple times that the thread is full of zealots. The Suns and Lions are improving in some ways, but the AFL isnt taking over.

From a tracksuit survey earlier in the year - dominant code by region.

View attachment 106206

From the survey
  • In Victoria, AFL is embraced across both genders.
  • In Queensland, it’s different. Gender drives a noticeable split, with men significantly more likely to prefer Rugby League compared to the state average.
  • In Victoria, age plays a big role. The 55+ crowd are the key drivers of the AFL’s dominance. Meanwhile, younger Victorians (18–34) are significantly less likely to back AFL compared to the State average, showing stronger interest in UFC.
  • In New South Wales, 55+ Australians are still the most loyal to Rugby League. But younger Sydneysiders are branching out, leaning into UFC, NBA, and MLB.
  • Queensland, as usual, is the outlier. In the sunshine state, NRL is popular across all age groups.
AFL dominates the NT too Norman

I think rating comparably to netball is pretty good for a competition on the rise. NRLW doesn’t have the huge built in player base to provide ratings either. As SOO continues to increase the profile of the women’s games those ratings will hopefully go up.
