the NRL did it you dope. How's that going??
they literally did 2 times over 2 periods from 1998 to 1999 to 2000
20 to 17 to 14 with multiple clubs gone or merged

and before that twice in the comps history
in 1983 to 1984
14 to 13 with newtown gone

in 1937 to 1938
9 to 8 with university gone

perthwrongs, ding dong

Perth red is right

The nrl didn’t go to 14 teams because that was the best way to grow the sport

Half the clubs killed off have been resurrected in some form in the nrl

Argue they don’t have the players or the tv money but 14 to 18 teams could be in super league and could one day be a good level

Are the following worthy of being in super league ?

Bradford
London
York
Toulose
Oldham
Widnes
Sheffield
Wales ?

Even the giants could get a new stadium in huddersfield

And Salford just need decent owners

Need to look at super league not through an nrl prism

10k is the average crowd that’s the benchmark which in terms of rugby clubs worldwide is decent and compares with English premiership union

Sheffield, wales, Oldham?! These can't draw crowds in 1,000's

They all have last time they were in super league. Maybe iwales maybe ended up 1k but it’s got potential esp with union down to 2 sides from 9

Scraping bottom with those clubs..and you're giving them money which can strengthen top clubs

wheres the talent coming from mate? Half the League is at Q cup level as it is and going broke.

SL needs decades to consolidate before they expand just like the NRL had to.
Atm half the games ,the lack of talent on show isn't worth watching and they have zero chances of winning the thing.

Is adding more going to bring those clubs magically up to SL standard with cash and players flown in from outer space? Or is adding those teams going to bring the competition down to championship standard?

Good argument

They’ll need to obviously get from nrl

But I don’t think the three new clubs who get added will be weak so they can build

Hull kr Wakey and leigh used to average 3 to 4K ish for example

Relegation did them a world of good and now thriving in super league

Shows clubs in the championship can turn it around and maybe even Salford

Bradford - yes if have financial backing and can sort stadium out
London - yes if someone willing to pour stupid money into them forever
York - yes, long term project to build fanbase but a good base to build from
Toulose - yes if a French tv deal is an option
Oldham- maybe, not sure they add much more than current teams though
Widnes - no
Sheffield - no
Wales ? - sadly no unless the finances of the game turn dramatically and the RFL have decent money to invest in the game in wales.

Back in uk at moment and the bbc haven’t mentioned HKR winning the LLS but have been all over the women’s union cup. It’s an uphill battle here for sure.

Watching the raiders v sharks game at moment, pretty boring. Hkr v wolves and hfc v dragons was far more entertaining.

It’d be interesting to see the stats on avg score, knock ons, penalties, six agains etc in an nrl game v a SL game.

I watched plenty of low level bouts in boxing that have been entertaining and plenty of title fights that haven't been.
But we both know which one you'll pay to see.

yes after the comp consolidated first and achieved more baseline fans with a shorter club number format to begin with ya dope! nrl starting point of 14 was higher than there finishing point of 20/22 (at one stage in split comp).

secondary to that is tv rights deals and more content. rugby league is worth considerably more in australia and more content brings more money, more teams bring more content. more content in uk super league does little more than give the game a little rise because half the clubs are absolute rubbish.

maybe you choose to conveniently leave those crucial parts of facts out because yet again, perthwrongs DING DONG
