They certainly do while training at Red Hill. So it follows that they would do it on game day.

It is however a closely guarded secret. You don't want Cleary drinking it do you? Especially with the superior quality of our trainers. Advantage lost.
Your trainers just spray toilet water on the balls to get an advantage.

Before I make a selection I’d like to cast your minds back to the worst refereeing performance of the year. Round 3 Manly v Raiders.

Set restarts 6 to 1 Manly
Penalties 10 to 4 Manly
Horsbrough sin binned after 21 minutes
Raiders 220 tackles to Manly 70 in the first half
Half time Manly 30 nil
Full time Manly 42 to 12
Possession at full time Manly 64%
Referee : Grant Atkins

We could easily see a barrage of one way penalties and one way set restarts enabling one team to get out to say 12 nil without the other team having a say in the contest. But I’ll try and make a prediction anyway.

If Penrith replicate their first half from last week they’ll win convincingly. There must be question marks though over the fitness of McLean and Martin. Coach Cleary said they were fine in the presser but you don’t know for sure until you have scans done.

For the Broncos to win Walsh will have to have 10 out of 10 game, the Broncos short and long kicking game has to be on song and they’ll have to play for 80 minutes. If they play like they did against the Bulldogs early in the season they are certainly in with a show. Talagi’s defence has improved this year but the Broncos’ will certainly target the corridors to the left and right of him.

Reynolds short kicking game can be devastating when on song and both back rowers are in the game to score meat pies from his grubber. Walsh or Hunt kicking from dummy half early in the tackle count might be a useful tactic .

Tries to Martin and Talagi

Panthers by 6

Referee likes giving escort penalties and changing the momentum of the match with nit picking penalties so anything could happen.

Too true about referees. Origin 1 and 2 this year great examples.

As a Panthers fan fan it is my only fear.

ugh that was a horror show, the only game all year we were never in the contest (excluding the Dolphins game in the final round). Atkins absolutely slammed us from the first minute... in saying that we didn't help ourselves much. Weekes had a shocker that game.

This is what he did in the week 1 final in Auckland too. Ping Ping Ping for 20 minutes then put the whistle away.

One “set the tone” penalty or set restart is one too many. I recall a match where it took a team on the receiving end of one of those “set the tone” penalties a good 15 minutes to wrestle back the field position they had lost. And they used up a fair bit of gas in the process.

Broncos tend to finish strong and panthers defence whilst good lacks the dominance it had in previous seasons. Worst case scenario for Panthers is a game management refereeing performance. A panthers lead could evaporate quickly if momentum calls are given to Broncos in the final 20. Holding on to their challenge should be a priority

I didn't see it, but a friend of mine told me there was a story in the media that week about a dying Manly fan who just wanted to see his team win the premiership before he died. Unfortunately, the young man passed away before the game (RIP).

Ricky said in the PC that "he knew why" the refereeing was so different that week....but wouldn't say why.

We were reffed right out of that game, but Weekes did have a shocker under the high ball.
