The grand plan

Yeah, I'll buy that - the 20 team footprint of 1995 minus Cronulla & with Balmain and Norths relocated (Norths on the Central Coast, Balmain to where-ever worked - likely Melbourne, I'd imagine) would have been a reasonable 19 team competition, with a spot for expansion in the late 1990s to get to 20.
Such missed opportunities, Souths and Cronulla talked, Norths and Balmain talked, Parra & Balmain talked, Western Subs and Canterbury talked, heck, even Balmain, Gold Coast and SQ Crushers. So many vested interested screwed what could’ve been a better footprint

Still lamenting the mergers 25 years later …

You had one which tried to please both parties equally Wests and Balmain….which created jealousy that one was getting more than the other over the smallest things ..like whether there was more black than orange in the jumpers ..

Then you had the merger between St George and Illawarra which was an out and out takeover of branding of one club over the other that hasn’t fared any better over the course of time…certainly for the old Steelers fans that were left with watching their socks run around on game day

Mergers are not good ideas in Rugby League ….over to the Perth Bears …

How stupid. Both Wests and Balmain had black I. Their colours. Of course it’s going to the be the Wests Tigers dominant colour.

Yeah it was pretty stupid that the other side would complain ..I agree…

I do think more Orange as the dominant Balmain colour though …so you agree ?

Both sides have two colours.

Black and white
Orange and black

it’s not that complicated.

are you trying to make my point for me ? It’s a stupid thing for the two sides to argue over … but the colours of the jersey’s having too much black or orange was a big debate when Balmain was still around … amongst other trivialities… like how big the Magpie emblem on the jersey was

They do. He's a billionaire

Lockyer's net worth would be nothing to sneeze at either. Everyone in the Rosalie area knows he has been snapping houses around there since the early 2000s. Not to mention some good business decisions.

The point of making money.. is to spend it!
Owning a team in one the greatest cities in the world is one bloody cool way to spend it!
Start building a team to win the comp..

Lockyer and his business partners have access to all the financial data and the best advisors and accountants money can buy.

What a waste of time and money! Should have just consulted a random on a forum!
Most on here are saying R360 is a waste of time and money and are happy for rugby to spend it and waste their money and to tear their sport apart. Not that i am a supportor of R360 and couldn’t care less if it succeeded or failed, but I would think the money behind that would have access to the best advisors and accountants. Doesn't guarantee it will get up off the ground let alone be a success.

For the sake of league in the England it would be good to have a successful league team in the biggest city but history tells us it has been tried and failed.
