Would a 2nd Melbourne team add value to the NRL?

The only way a 2nd Melbourne side would work down the track, would be down in Dandenong region IMO. There is room for a stadium, it’s a league loving area and large population.

But that is decades away. Can’t disturb what the growth we are currently seeing!

They’d add more value than the sharks and currently the titans and dragons but there’s plenty of other expansion markets to explore before Melbourne 2.
Don’t agree there. Dragons have a massive base, we’ve just been dominant since 2010. It’s not fair to say we’re anything like the Sharks or Titans.

we need to sign some quality players and hit the 8 and immediately everyone you know will somehow be a drags supporter

long standing sufferer but 2010 attendee so don’t care

The stadium could be used for soccer as well. How much did the government spend on the Kardinia Park redevelopment?
Too much. I don’t know exactly but they would have overspent on it. Seems like they have been perpetually adding to the ground for the last 15 years.

There isn’t the demand for a soccer team. Western United just collapsed

As a Storm fan I think that Storm reserves should be rebranded as a separate team within the structure.

For instance, Melbourne Mavericks.

This side could predominantly play out of West Melbourne's Soccer ground (holds maybe 4500) There is a very strong concentration of League clubs in the area.

Ultimately Melbourne can develop two pathways, Melbourne East and Melbourne West.

They co-ordinate schedules to have Mavericks play at home when Storm is away encouraging linked but separate season tickets, merch etc.

Down the track when there is opportunity to have a 2nd team, Melbourne Storm ownership can either divide the company and teams formally seeing Mavericks move into the NRL as their own or sell it as a remade asset and brand with core supported base and history.

Is the western stadium built or even set up for another sport?!

The initial field is called "Iron Bark Fields" and holds about 5000 (presently 2600 seats I believe)

That is a really good size for a second tier Rugby League side imo.

I didn't think the in goals were big enough for rugby but I was wrong. Owned by the council not western United.
