2025 Warriors Awards

I feel a bit bummed out that Roger got the Simon Mannering Medal over Erin.

Erin played every game, Roger missed six.

And this bit got me as well...

The other nominees for the Simon Mannering Medal were second rower Kurt Capewell, loose forward Erin Clark, prop Jackson Ford and fullback Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad.

CAPEWELL?

FORD?

Who picks it? Is it from ratings each week or on overall feel?

I was just about to write 'please tell me this is just a bye round and we're back next week' but then I suddenly realised I'm nearly done for the season!

The international league always gets dudded by being so late. I know I'll be limping through to November!

Do the players really but much stock in these awards for it to be an issue?
I’d be disappointed if they did tbh.

That’s not to downplay the awards, and sure a bit of disappointment would be understandable.

But if missing out on an individual award bothered a player so much as to get bitter over it, I reckon they have their priorities wrong for a team sport.

I don't know. It was pretty neck and neck, to be honest and Clark's form dipped a little. He owned the first half and Roger owned the second. Hardly a scandal that Roger gets it.

Did it? No doubt RTS was the best Warrior in the second half of the year but Erin was the 2nd best, and clearly first in the time we were killing it.

Only my opinion, I guess, but the numbers around tackles made, metres made, post contact, he never missed a game (Roger missed 6), I just don't see that it's close. Erin put up some ridiculous numbers on both sides of the ball.

Yeah he's probably not going to be 'bitter' about it but I wouldn't be surprised if it hurt a bit. Again only me, I think it was the wrong call but it is a subjective award. And our POTY was fairly close between the two.

Agree with Meth, cos Roger *was* very good.

The rest of the nominations are laughably cooked - I'm not starting another Ford debate but Capewell and CNK were all over the show this year.

I really want to know how the POTY calculations work, whether it's in-game points or a summative assessment of their year. Because for someone to say Kurt Capewell was in our top 5, is hilarious. The idea that Leka wasn't there, and he was...it feels like gaslighting, trying to get us to believe we know nothing and Capewell actually was great.

Adding to it, only Clark and Halasima secured Dally M nominations.
Incredibly Leka for both back-rower and rookie.

The Rugby League Players Association (RLPA) team of the year also featured only Clark.

tbh I think Leka getting nominated for second rower of the year and RTS not getting nominated at all is a bit farcical and our in-house awards were more accurate.

Leka should be ROTY but the second rower nomination feels like it’s based mostly on media hype whereas RTS was more of a quiet achiever.

Roger was much better than Savage, Lomax and Kiraz, and Marky Mark played a third of his season at centre. Weird picks.

Mind you, Naufahu Whyte got nominated as lock of the year for playing there for six games at the back-end of the season.

And Lachlan Galvin got nominated for the Provan-Summons Medal, which is 'awarded to the player deemed by the Dally M judges to have displayed the true 'spirit of the game' through their actions and conduct on-field.

That's the biggest LOL.

Yea the positional nominations and awards aren’t points based so they’re even more prone to subjectivity aren’t they. No doubt his highlight reel moments influenced judges.

He probably benefited from Jacob Preston getting suspended during the season and being made ineligible too. Suspect he would’ve pushed for a nomination otherwise.
