Makes sense, it made for some pretty dry games though. A lot of times the opponent never felt in it, yet Penrith never went on to put a score on them, they’d park up and play conservatively.

It was a bit weird to watch. Not what you expect to see from the number one side.

I can only remember one score of 50 off the top of my head. I think it was against the Sharks in 2021.

Could be worse we could have our trophies in a comp missing the good teams.

Speaking of weak years, imagine winning a GF against a team coached by Brian Smith with Jason Taylor, Michael Beutner and Brad Drew in the spine. May as well not play the grand final.

Brian Smith alone should discount GF wins. Even St George managed a win against him
hello, this thread is about Penrith

Here is a thread celebrating Newcastle's achievements https://forums.leagueunlimited.com/threads/2025-wooden-spoon-champions.493209/

or this one https://forums.leagueunlimited.com/threads/why-are-newcastle-so-crap.493623/

thanks

Always wanted to see what it was like when the dragons won 11 straight

Penrith probably surpassed it given the comp is national and has more teams, and more importantly the club got smashed by the salary cap

Dragons kept the team intact as they liked during that run and only ended when Kevin Ryan left and taught Canterbury St George tactics

Wish the rest of the nrl clubs would invest in juniors like they do. Storm appear to be copying now

When they get their home ground back they are going to be hard to beat with the team they have

You also had the residency rule in play back then. Considering how many of the Penrith boys are from the area if that was in place still they’d be miles ahead of everyone else.

Best team I've ever seen = Tick
Best defensive team = Tick

I've seen better teams in attack win premierships though. Penrith won their gf's due to suffocating defence and being the fittest squad in the comp.

Not so sure about that. Knights would be also killing it.
Nah how many of their juniors are they promoting now

Clubs a rabble hopefully osullivan and hollbrook clean the joint up

Loads of clubs have big junior nurseries and are poor at turning them into fg players (eg dragons knights parra souths titans cowboys even warriors)

It's funny how when Penrith lost on Sunday, some would think that the Broncos have "saved rugby league". Yet since 2015, and including this year, Storm, Panthers and Broncos are no strangers to GF day.

Amount of appearances since 2015:
Storm- six
Panthers- five
Broncos- three.

So this Sunday, we won't be watching a relatively "new" or "fresh" team in the GF. Certainly not Tigers, Dragons, Titans, Knights etc. But it also indicates that those teams and others need to get better, rather than opposition fans whingeing about Penrith.

Can remember footy pretty well from the late 80s. Best legal individual teams for me would be (in no order):

1994 Canberra Radiers
1998 Brisbane Broncos
2017 Melbourne Storm
2022 Penrith Panthers

So now that the Penrith "Six Again" Panthers are finished, was this the most overrated 'dynasty' in sports?
You a silly little petty person. You obviously support a team that has do e nothing over the past 5 years. Why can't you be a normal human being and respect what Penrith achieved?
Your attempts at belittling one of the greatest achievements in Rugby League history are pathetic at best.
I honestly worry about these forums if you are a moderator and truly believe in what you are saying.

In terms of stars at every position, yes.

But in terms of teamwork, resilience, covering for departed players, system and consistency the Panthers are the best of the modern era.

Im not convinced their dynasty is over either.

IMO the early 2021 Panthers were the peak (the start of this thread)

Prior to Origin they were running through teams without resistance.

Players were injured in and around Origin and then the team became pure grind which didn't let up.

The only weakness in that side was Momo/Staines.

The cinematographer was the best fourteen we had over the six prelim years.

The pack of

Fish
Leota
Yeo
Martin
Kiks
Capewell
Lenui
Sorro (who was great in tandem with Spencer)

Api at dummy half

TPJ's late season cameo.

Is near the best ever assembled in clubland IMO. Better than some rep packs too.
