2025 Streaming and TV Ratings Discussion

I can’t recall meeting any, I used to see the jerseys when the eels were playing at Accor and they were on next door at the same time so I’m sure they have some
I caught the train to Sydney last year from Taree and there was one coming to Sydney for a game wearing all the gear, typical fumble fan she thought everyone within earshot wanted to hear about the fumbles. I don`t get it, why are League fans generally so reticent to talk up the game.
Personally I think it`s the nature of the game itself, fumbles is all froth and bubbles, League, there`s no hiding, it`s a man`s game.

Which given the ratings growth would be highly unlikely and probably goes to the credibility of the RM poll.

Its not measuring the same, With ratings we aggregate, which means the same viewer is getting counted multiple times a season. The RM poll is for people who watched at least 1 game. Its effectively Reach, but on a per game, rather than per minute basis.

And Oztam is also a survey.

Oztam n=~20,000
Roy Morgan n=~64,000

Well yes, thats typically how Surveys work. Oztam works the same way.
but is it the case that this is a subjective measure (admittedly you should be able to remember if you have seen a game) but ratings have an objective measure from the black box?

20,000 people are still used to extrapolate data for another 26m.

A lot of talk about a river in Egypt among our friends at Bigfooty. Wookie being attacked for suggesting that 1. Reach is crap 2. NRL has slaughtered AFL this year

I note posters on Bigfooty suggesting @The_Wookie is biased towards the NRL in how he shares the data, yet you have posters on here suggesting he is biased towards the AFL..😂

Yes, i know that, and it’s very unlikely that an increase in ratings, including a huge increase in finals ratings, would coincide with a double digit decrease in those having watched at least one game this year.

What about ratings on fox/kayo? They’re not based on a survey are they?

Pretty much every other metric (crowds, tv ratings, social media engagement) is showing significant growth so I’m not sure I can buy those numbers. I’m not saying they’re wrong but they seem out of step with everything else.

Yes out of the 4.7m Foxtel customers 1/5 of them were watching on Sunday ( biggest audience of anything ever on the platform) so it’s hard to imagine our audience is going backwards

Its time for foxtel to start paying the big bickies, without RL they'll be hopeless 😔

No Foxtel does its own ratings through Kantar, which uses return path data technology.

FTA ratings are suvey based, aggregated tv ratings and aggregated crowds are not what the Roy Morgan survey data is for.

For instance, its possible its the same number of people going to more matches that affect aggregate crowds, and the same number of people watching more tv. It IS possible to get to this conclusion from the available data in both surveys.
