New Zealand 2 will deal a massive blow to NZ rugby

That's Gould having no idea about NZ really.

Why do you think a second Auckland side will be successful?
I think NZ expansion looks a lot like Queensland. Broncos in Brisbane ( Warriors in Auckland) then Townsville ( Christchurch) Gold Coast ( Wellington)
Dolphins ( second Auckland club).

Doubling up in your main city isn't needed until all expansion options have been exhausted.

With the size of the NRL already, it'll be a long time until we will be thinking NZ needs more than 2 clubs

In order if league really takes off

1. Christchurch (games in Dunedin and other South Island towns)

2. Wellington (Napier palmerstone north etc)

3. Hamilton (taranaki etc)

If the old north harbour stadium had remained then maybe a team out of there but two teams at mt smart or even one at Eden park is just stupid

Warriors can start taking their bigger games to Eden park to cater for crowd growth

I was being a little flippant. As I said I don't really agree with him that the second team should be in Auckland. Other cities without a team are better options.

But Auckland is not far off 2 million people and with time and consolidation I think there is space for a second team there. Ideally you'd want something to differentiate them from the Warriors in terms of geography / stadium or something (and not along race lines hopefully). If there were no other better options then we would probably be looking at a second team in Auckland.

Precisely this.

I'm lucky to have a job that lets me take "Ultimate Mad Monday" off every year - and I've done that every year since night Grand Finals started.

If you don't have that luxury, it's a tough slog to stay up to midnight on a Sunday.

One thing nsw does well it’s a public holiday here

Don’t know what for either

I only found out about the Monday holiday on Thursday this week. But I work my own hours so I often don't know when the public holidays are outside of Xmas/NY.

Part of me wants NZ2 to be based in Auckland based purely out of spite for the warriors opposition to a 2nd New Zealand NRL franchise.

NZ2 should infact be based in Christchurch.
I understand that, but in the context of this thread it seems like a pretty low number to me, I thought it would be higher than that. Has NZ turned into a nation of grandpas all going to bed at 9pm? ;)

Same for me and I live in England just watched at night with drink and dinner and get away from the internet for scoreline.

Christchurch
Hamilton
Auckland 2

Wellington would need a new stadium with a roof first, weather is horrendous.

Super Rugby doesn't draw there. NPC take their games to Porirua. A League play in the summer.

Nope..

Christchurch
then Wellington
then Hamilton

Spreads the teams out, and catchments would be similar to Super Rugby, with the Christchurch covering the whole South Island like the Womens Super Rugby team does.
