According to Nine

  • These stunning numbers cap off one of the most successful NRL seasons of all time, in terms of TV viewing figures, with the 2025 season recording significant growth across all iterations and on all screens.
  • NRL Season 2025 (Regular Season + Final Series) has seen growth of +11.5% on Total TV, recording a National Total TV Average Audience of 614,000 per match (the highest for a NRL Season in VOZ history).
  • The NRL Finals series has recorded its highest Audience in VOZ History with over 1.1 million people tuning into every game (up 33.3% year-on-year) on Nine.
  • Broadcast Audiences grew double digits (+22.1%) with BVOD Audiences increasing an impressive +101.8% (244,000 Audience).
  • The Preliminary final between the Brisbane Broncos and Penrith Panthers was the highest across all screens in VOZ history (Broadcast, BVOD, Total TV). The match drew a National Total TV Audience of 1.8 million (up 53% year-on-year).
  • People didn’t just tune in in record numbers to the Finals series. For the Regular Home & Away Season in 2025, Audiences grew +7.7% on Total TV, +4.2% on Broadcast TV & +34.9% on BVOD
  • This success also translated to Nine’s NRL programming. 100% Footy saw a Total TV Audience of 194,000 per episode (up 66.1% year-on-year), reaching 5.6 million throughout the series. NRL Sunday Footy Show reached 3.6 million people on Total TV.
  • In its first series broadcast on Channel 9 in Sydney and Brisbane, Freddy and the Eighth saw a Total TV Audience of 97,000 tune in every week.
Logically NZ can't get 500k viewers for a Warriors game IF the average in Australia is 614k.

Happy to be corrected.

The best result came at the right time - 9/Stan to blow away Foxtel offer. Will only lead to higher ratings as 9 will have it all. They’ll cross promote etc. Foxtel won’t give it up easily - so players are in for a huge increase in pay, which allows us to continue to grow more, more money, means more advertising, more teams, more saturation, better juniors. Time to buy ESL.

Going to Stan ruined rugby and A-league (is that where a-league went) and off free to air / fox. So must have some reluctance for this option. Maybe allow fox and nine to have it all same as fox and seven have all AFL. Nine can put some games on Stan but must guarantee at least 4 games on Nine.

League would be different

It would make Stan number one in pay tv / streaming and Foxtel would be stuffed

For now all Pvl needs is Stan to bid to get Fox up yo a good number

Only change for existing I can see is origin and grand finals being simulcast on Fox with nine also showing

Fox would probably then pay rugby a lot of money and also AFL and they would try to damage RL. It is a tough one. But yes then Fox would be desperate at the next negotiation.

They said they overpaid for afl

Nobody watches union they aren’t stupid to pay them overs

Their pockets are way deeper than nine

They have to make money on each contract so if they lose nrl they will lose all the subscribers who are on board for it

People are going to keep fox and switch to watching afl instead

I mean PVL and Abdo must be licking their lips

I have Foxtel, and it’s pretty useless unless you get a decent package - I’m paying $100 or so a month.

Stan would be no different. It would be $40 or so, so cheaper plus they would be able to do live crosses to other stan-only games etc etc

lots of cross promotion and nine plus nrl would be the winner. The difference is 9 is league through and through, dazn isn’t.

So at the moment, you watch 2-3 live games - Thursday, Friday, Sunday - those would then be used to promote the rest of the round.

Ratings will go higher and league wins. We will never agree to be off prime time

I don't know much about these TV deals but if DANZ is an international platform and agrees to broadcast our game live internationally and get our game international exposure consistently, wouldn't we be better off going with them even if it's for less?
Isn't that the point of Vegas?
Think big !!!

All NRL to 9/stan would have huge implications. Stan Sport would go up in cost but the chance to ruin DAZN would seem worth the gamble.

Surely 1/3 of subs would leave? I'd.consider subbing over the summer for cricket but that's maybe 4 months.

No more Super Saturday you'd imagine either. But they'd need to get the mix right so that people transition to Stan from DAZN.

I just spent an Hr on BF .
talk about delusion & Living in an alternate reality.
After reading your post, I had to check out this BF.
Are they on crack? They seriously think that AFL is taking over Brisbane and will be bigger than League within 10 years.
They actually believe this...
How do the AFL crowd manage to be this delusional? I've been in a bar in Melbourne before, listening to a chat between blokes, saying League is a dying game. I thought it was just 2 morons but.. it's not!
It always blows my mind that the general population can be so uninformed in this day and age.

The NRL and Channel Nine are celebrating the best television ratings in the history of the sport, with the Broncos-Storm grand final attracting a record audience of more than 4.4 million viewers.

The NRL grand final smashed the television viewing numbers of the AFL, with an average of 4.18 million viewers tuning in to watch the Brisbane Lions topple Geelong to win the flag a week earlier.

The women’s grand final also had more than a million viewers, passing the numbers of the Bledisloe Cup between the Wallabies and All Blacks (893,000) the night before. It was up 36 per cent on the NRLW grand final the year before.

The NRL grand final was watched by more people than the highest rating Origin fixture of the year, with an average of 3.9 million tuning in for the decider in game three earlier in the year.

Last year’s NRL grand final between Penrith and Melbourne attracted an average audience of 3.36 million, with this year’s grand final up 33 per cent. The 2023 grand final had an audience of 3.41 million.

The Broncos-Storm grand final was the highest-rated streaming event in the new ratings system’s history, with 1.3 million watching the decider on 9Now alone. Nine is the owner of this masthead.

The 2025 grand final was also the highest-rated television program of the night in each major city bar Adelaide.

Are Adelaide folk outcasts.
