Panthers in NRL first. Redcliffe predates Miami..
True, Redcliffe vs Miami. There have been other Panthers pro football teams in America long before the Penrith team....1920s-1950s.

Illawarra Steelers was another rip off.

I would like the GC to rebrand as the Marlins.

Miami win - just. Miami founded 1966, Redcliffe renamed to Dolphins 1968

1947 – The Redcliffe Peninsula Rugby League Club club is founded … The first club unofficial club emblem – or at least nickname – was the ‘Shellgrit’, no doubt spawned by the abundance of shell grit on the peninsula’s beaches.

1960 – Redcliffe is officially accepted into the Brisbane Rugby League premiership, with the club known as ‘The Seagulls’.

1968 – The club takes on the name that has made it famous across Queensland, Australia and now the globe – The Dolphins.

Pfff.. team mascots repeat in all sorts of sports all over the world mate, there's 8 billion people, we're going to overlap on things.
Agree. Don't know if league teams have tried it but alot of soccer teams their supporters have relationships with clubs in other countries where they share the same colours or mascots. Good way for league teams to build awareness of the game in other parts of the world, especially the US where there are common mascots/names.

I've been sceptical of a PNG franchise and how strong it could be but I must say, this name has grown on me awfully fast!
PNG Chiefs sounds cool! That's a strong brand!
Looking forward to seeing the logo

There is and was some cool unique names in the USARL:
Philadelphia fight
DC Slayers
Jaxonville axemen
Boston Thirteens

I can't think of the others but even they had an overlap in the Rode Island Rebellion.
