Is Tago really on that much coin?

We signed him for around 50-150K less than Critta when that deal fell through. Critta reportedly on about 800-850K so Tago is on about 700K or so.

From what he has shown in 2024 and 2025 he isn't playing to his worth and I am a big Fan of his. Pre Pec Tago was a beast, and even after that injury he becomes a rock solid defender come finals (Other than the 23 GF).

But I would be betting he isn't delivering at even 70% of what the Club was hoping. He was borderline Origin level at his peak.

Disagree. If Ponga was at Penrith or Brisbane I reckon he'd be unstoppable. Awesome player that carries Knights.

We are actually in agreement then.

Brisbane and Penrith have stacked squads. Two of the best in the comp. Ponga would be terrific at either club.

The Knights don't have the players around Ponga to justify his salary. And along with Dbags its now even worse.

I still think if Ponga stays fit theyll push for finals. The squad isnt terrible. Some excellent runners of the ball.

Fletcher Sharpe, Ponga and Bradman Best are attacking weapons that can split any defence wide open. Dylan Lucas in form is also an attacking weapon. Holbrook has to do everything in his power to get attacking shapes utilising these 4 as much as he can. If successful, the Knights can make finals and scare even the big teams.

By comparison if Edwards or Walsh go down you can still see those teams taking a stab at the 8. Just far better squads than the Knights.

Its not the worst in the comp but it has big issues in key areas. Namely the spine. Dbags will help but his slice of the cap is ludicrous. He and Ponga have to play every game possible.

Worst would be Titans. Dragons close second.

Sure but if fit surely Ponga is a top 5 player in game. I'd say he is potentially no 1
Remember he is doing all this at a weak squad. He would run riot at a Strom Brslisbane or Panthers.
If fit I think they deff can suprise plenty of people.

He hasn't been able to stay fit a full season his entire career and he's not paid accordingly. Every year it gets less likely he'll become a resilient player who meets his potential.

The Knights have a lot of problems but his contract is one of the biggest ones.

Yep, If I were the Knights I'd let Ponga walk. There is too much baggage for both player and club and TBH Fletcher Sharpe is nearly as dangerous as him at fullback already (and a heap cheaper).

Sharpe to fullback would also solve the problem of having 2 gun 5/8ths at the club. Move Brown to his natural position rather than forcing him to be a halfback then get a decent halfback like a Sandon Smith in.

I think the Knights are hoping Ponga gets offered a bag by R360 or whatever its called.

Yes, Tago has better defense than Alamoti, comfortably so, and that is even when Tago has his defensive wobbles.

No he doesnt, they played as the centre pairing often enough last season and it was never alamoti that was getting carved up, and when Tago has the wobbles there are not many worse defenders in the comp.

EXCLUSIVE: 2025 NSW Cup Player of the Year on radar of rival club

He led the New Zealand Warriors to the double in 2025.

A week after confirming his departure from the New Zealand Warriors, 2025 NSW Cup premiership captain Kalani Going has found himself on the radar of another club.

Fresh off leading the Warriors to the double (NSW Cup and State Championship) less than a fortnight ago, sources have told Zero Tackle that the 28-year-old has found himself on the radar of the Penrith Panthers.

Bowing out in the 2025 Preliminary Final to the NRL's eventual winners, the links between the two parties come after Penrith is also set to add New Zealand duo Tobias Crosby and Tom Ale to its roster next season, adding to its forward depth.

On a development contract with the Warriors this season, he can play a variety of positions in the forward pack and had the opportunity to make his NRL first-grade debut in 2023 against The Dolphins.

Since then, he has been a workhorse in reserve-grade and has not only helped the younger forward coming through the ranks but was awarded with the honour of being named the 2025 NSW Cup Player of the Year.

"What a way to go out!!! Thanks New Zealand Warriors for the last 3 years I've loved my time here & will always be grateful for this amazing club," Going posted on social media last week.
